Tarrytown Lighthouse

Comments

  1. Lighthouse on shore of the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York. We had a nice walk there last Suturday.

  3. RUTH love your opening photos, it’s like having a holiday in another country.
I’d love to see more of where you live. 😃

    ReplyDelete
  4. Me too, and thank you for your ongoing commitment to us Ruthy.

  5. Ruthy thank you. I don't like Philip but if Kirsty does then good luck. Kate lives rent free and doesn't pay for the use of land for her unprofitable business, if she can dictate the terms good luck.

    1. .... and doesn't Kate still have a mortgage-free cottage? Perhaps that I am doing a Christine and becoming "muddled".

      Delete
    2. Yes Miriam, both Kate and Alice live in what used to be holiday lets, rent free. At some point Kate let hers out for lack of funds and moved into the house.

  6. Ruthy, thank you.
I wonder how Kate is going to stop the sale of land surrounding her yurts?
A thwarted Kate stomping her feet like a spoils child is not a good example of relaxed mindfulness.

  7. Ruthy, sorry for the RUTH earlier, for some strange reason that happens whenever I start to type your name and I forgot to correct it! It used to drive me mad on the BBC blogs whenever I wanted to talk about Ruth and it came out in capital letters - I wonder if RUTH is an accronym for something that has got stuck in my IPad. No matter how many times I correct it, it always appears in caps!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have found, quite by accident, that if I correct something multiple times, one immediately after t'other, it stays corrected.
Sometimes after 2X correction, sometimes 5X correction.
But then ' it ' gets the message.

I wonder if the ' it' inside the equipment is someone we once knew,
      helping us through life ?

    2. Good afternoon Archerphile. You might have accidentally double tapped the caps arrow which puts the caps lock on. ( done it myself!)

    3. Ruthy, a lovely lighthouse photo.
I have to add that my favourite is South Stack Lighthouse on the Isle of Angelesey (N. Wales).

  8. I have just had an idea. Brian and the Home Farm Team does not know exactly what the EA are up to at Low Mead. Why doesn't he ask Toby to utilise his "drone" to fly over reguarly and take some photos?. I am very much thinking that the EA have been negligent in some way. It might, or might not, be a useful exercise. Who knows?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Miriam, I agree, the EA operation doesn't add up, perhaps Kate could intervene.

      Delete
    2. What a good idea ! Perhaps getting closer to the truth, & utilizing the hapless Toby.

    3. It's true that T❤️O❤️B❤️Y (far from being hapless!) has become Ambridge go to man, but I believe Home Farm has its own drone?

  9. Today, June 9th 2018, is World Gin Day. I wonder how the production of "Scruff" is progressing and why I recently haven't heard about Lilian having a tipple or two, with an ice + a slice, along with a paper straw.
PS I have to add, that I noticed when I was watching Corrie last night, that there were very prominent paper
    straws.

    1. Would you like to be our official straw-monitor, Miriam? You would seem to be well qualified. Join forces with Fallon.

    2. I am only thinking about the very tiny, miniscule plastic items that every-one can easily change. I saw an article about British farmed mussels, which are being widely sold in the UK. All, and I mean 100%, have definitively been found to have been contaminated with "microbeads". These plastics are from the residue from exfoliating body/face washes etc. I just believe that it only takes a few simple changes to make a difference.
Fallon is certainly beginning to make some very drastic decisions with her ideas.
My ethos is that each and everyone of us, should just to try and do what it is possible in one's home life.

    3. I use an "exfoliating glove" which I buy from an "el cheapo" shop and use it with a moisturing cream bath and shower body wash. It works.

  10. Miriam - I looked up South Stack lighthouse. Beautiful. There are many lighthouses along the Atlantic shores on the US side. The Tarrytown is not that impressive, but regardless, I love to visit any when I can. We went to Bermuda last summer. Will post a photo of a lighthouse in a future blog. I am happy to see how well used these blogs are. I will never give up.

  11. I have to say that I am getting very fed up with Brian, Jennifer, Adam + Kate. Alice does not seem to be very vocal about the Home Farm situation, but she and Cbris do both have their own careers, and The Forge. I wonder if Chris has any potential outlets for his iron work, such as a garden centre, or a new unit at the "market".
I am wondering whethet the sale of the Home Farm Lands, will encroach and cause a problem for the cottages. I do not know where they are in relation to Home Farm.

  12. It would appear that Phillip's son is only a few years younger than she is.
I expect he would like a younger woman to look after his dad .
I am not sure that Kirsty was that smitten with him though.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Good idea about using the drone Miriam. Has Kate put any of her own money, if she has any, into her business? If, as I suspect, she hasn't then she doesn't really have a leg to stand on regarding 'her' business does she? I may be wrong on this but I seem to think everything has been a gift from Mummy and Daddy.

Re Bermuda. I'm assuming Lilian goes to Bermuda to stay within TA matters! We went two summers ago. We loved it. Very hot though. But the people were so friendly. I loved the snorkelling and the food. We stayed near St George's and were there during the annual cricket match between St George's and Somerset. And the Bermuda shorts that the business men really do wear with a tie and jacket.

As to lighthouses do look up Southwold lighthouse in Suffolk UK. Such a white lighthouse set amongst the houses of this little seaside town. Great pleasure to round a street corner and see it. Also a lovely pub called the Sole Bay right next to it selling Adnams beer.

    ReplyDelete
  15. La Corbiere lighthouse in Jersey is my favourite. I don't like the steep steps to South Stack!

  16. I’m a bit confused.
I thought this was the blog for Archers programme comments not the one for general chit chat. Does anything go here now? (Genuine question, not being sarky!)

  17. Last night Brian mentioned prosecution again and Jennifer said that Kate might turn against him, all sounds very unpleasant. As for Gavin, why did he initiate the next meeting? Was it just to make a point that he prefers an upmarket place? Very odd.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Is Gavin trying to lure Kirsty away from Philip? I had to rewind as I thought I had misheard Gavin's age. I hope she dumps father and son.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Must make Philip well into his 50’s, far too old for Kirsty. My husband was nearly 11 years older than me and even with that there was a generation gap. I always felt that our gap was about the limit! Sometimes of course it works well but there are drawbacks. Gavin is nearer her age but he sounds a bit mean not leaving a tip at the restaurant!

      Delete
    2. I am thinking that Gavin is trying to manoever Kirsty away from his father, Phil.
He knows the truth, whatever it is and this will only be revealed in a much later time. I am sure Phil has something to hide. I at the moment do not have an idea, so I am going to dust off my Miss Marple hat.

    3. Philip is a builder, could his firm have been the ones who buried the barrels of chemicals on Brian's farm?

  19. COUNTY SHOW ALERT,
(Have tried, twice, to put this on the chit chat blog but it won’t publish, for some reason, so excuse my posting here)
I just heard that several members of Archers cast, including Lilian, MATT, Eddie, Ruth, Brian and Adam are to put in appearances at:
The Three Counties Show, Malvern Showground, on 15th - 17th June.

Anyone fancy getting a T shirt printed and going along to confront them about our missing blog?
.......amazing what you find out when on holiday in France

    1. This sounds that Matt will re-appear in Ambridge. I do hope so, as I do like that scoundrel. I still think that he was also duped as was Christine. Perhaps this is why Aunty Chris is now more prominent. I would still like to know what Matt had in his suitcases. I think it was what he felt was due to him.

  20. Stasia.....?
You may be the nearest to the Malvern Showground.

I might have my car by the end of the week but I am not up to driving that far with my new knee yet.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'd also like to know what was in Matt's suitcases but I don't think it was due to him as he was in a hurry to get away and *to me* it sounded that *he* felt he got what he deserved.
As far as appearances by members of the Archers cast, my opinion is, that this kind of information belongs here. Anyway, Janice was kind enough to mention it on this blog and I read the full story on the other one, well done Janice for the initiative.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I sadly cannot find any posts from Janice, which Basia is referring to.
I have scrolled back but to no avail. Can any-one help out why I am unable to read Janice's posts?

    1. Miriam, I can't find it either but Janice had a t-shirt printed with: bring back the Archers' blog - not exact words and she wore it to a show in Cornwall where she met Vanessa Whitburn ex editor and they exchanged ideas. Look out for further alerts on the other blog.

  23. I think Philip would be the first one to be appalled if his name was cited as grounds for a divorce but I don't care, let Shula talk and all hell break loose.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lil is hardly the ideal choice for relationship advice, but can anyone be as clueless as Shula ? It's not even honest to say fancying Philip was the tipping point. It just emphasized to her that having a wandering eye for any man was symptomatic of marriage dissatisfaction; it was much more telling a while back when she became seriously interested in the returning Dr. Locke. The real reasons lie in the stale daily grind, his apparent contentment, lack of understanding her restlessness, her lack of interest in what seriously bothered him (Crawford), him not getting her state of mind (never articulated 'honestly' anyway) not, to her thinking, appreciating how upset she was about son's decision to join the army. I think she grew away from him - nothing to do with him being 'interesting' or not, objectively, but everything to do her self dissatisfaction. He hasn't changed in the years; she imagines she has, even if she has no clear sense of a future, new direction.

  27. Perhaps Philip will start spending more time with Shula and Kirsty will leave him, I hope she does for whatever reason because each time I hear him the less I like him.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am even more convinced after tonights TA episode, that Philip is hiding a lot about his previous life/lives. I am wondering if this is why his son Gavin has been recently been introduced. I am thinking that he will give a tru and realistic insight into who his father Philip really is. This might just help both Kirsty, Shula and Alistair.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Unfounded suspicions of Philip continuing unabated, I see ! He behaved impeccably tonight, not opinionated, but quietly (& practically) supportive of Alistair, who is clearly bitter & angry, but trying to get through the difficult divorce process with as little emotion as possible so he can make a fresh start. Shula doesn't seem able to either cope herself or understand him. No surprises there.
I do realize I could left with egg on my face concerning Philip - maybe Kirsty will stumble on a dark secret, or this son will add a shocking dimension ! Don't find that remotely plausible, however, as things stand.
Just as some seem to want the man to turn out to be an utter jerk, I hope a) he continues as he is & makes Kirsty very happy, as she deserves to be. b) Hannah eventually does get romantically interested in Tom, & makes a man of him.....

  30. Re Phillip-Does he own a Business and does he have several blokes working for him which meant he had to rush back and take over from somebody else?
    Why was he not working?
When did he become Alastair's first port of call ?
Why didn't Alastair ask his father or pay for a taxi?
He seemed not to mind paying the £200 (and the rest ) per hour to have mediation sessions.
    There's another thing.
What on earth is the point of them?
I can't put my finger on why I do not like Phillip .
It just seems that he is everyone's best friend all of a sudden
I don't mind if he runs off with Shula but please not Kirsty.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I must agree that Philip does seem to be something of a mystery man.
Perhaps the character had been introduced or invented to take the place of Matt but with an entirely different modus operandi.
Like Carolyn I do not dislike him, but on the other hand he is a builder.
Some builders can be pretty dodgy.

But.... Lan Jan .... in my experience the boss is usually running from job to job making sure that his crew are doing the work to his satisfaction, and that boss often helps his day along by incorporating back scratching of friends.

    1. He is indeed a builder, and wasn't it builders who buried the barrels of chemicals on Brian's land. Could there be any connection?

  32. I’m with Carolyn regarding Philip. Give the bloke a chance, he’s not done anything wrong yet, just been kind and supportive to everyone he has come into contact with : Shula, Kirsty and now Alistair. I can’t understand why everyone (not just on here, either) is so suspicious of him. So far, I like him and I think I have have no reason not to.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Too much Shula and Alistair SL. I don't really want to hear every bit of how they will eventually be divorced. Difficult to understand why she doesn't want the divorce to go quickly and why she and A cannot remain buddy-buddy. Alistair has now moved on, and should as Shula, and we can move on too.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not at all sure that Alastair has genuinely moved on - it sounded to me more as if he was trying to convince himself and everyone else that he had, presumably in an attempt to rescue his self-esteem. He was being insufferable to Shula again.

      Delete
    2. Agree one hundred percent with Maryellen.
      Just as I heard it.

      Delete
  34. I don't agree that Alistair was being insufferable to Shula. To my ears she is the insufferable one and is now wanting to slow things down - why? Alistair is trying to put on a brave face and hide how he's really feeling I think and who can blame him.
I don't really have much of an opinion about Philip yet. He seems a bland character but I hope he doesn't hurt Kirsty as she deserves some happiness.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree about Alistair, he's been badly hurt by Shula, and doesn't want to allow himself to show his feelings. I hope he doesn't suffer the consequences later. Philip seemed genuinely considerate and concerned about him.

      Delete
    2. The problem with Alastair, both as a man and a husband, is not so much his boringness as his adolescent side. Granted he has been in this situation before and the repeated knock to his self-esteem is more than likely to produce a negative reaction, but his teenage belligerence and belittling of Shula makes for uncomfortable listening. No wonder Shula has been subconsciously attracted by the company of more 'grown up' men - like Philip, who has been doing his diplomatic best to make Alastair view his and Shula's position in a more helpful and realistic manner. (Though Philip himself was behaving like an adolescent in his conversation with Tom.) I suppose Alastair may always have suffered from low self- esteem - Jim, as a father, may have something to answer for there.

      Delete
    3. I think that Shula has been behaving like an adolescent throughout this storyline.

      Delete
    4. I don't think accusing Shula of behaving like an adolescent throughout this storyline exonerates Alastair from behaving like an adolescent throughout their marriage!

      Delete
    5. maryellen, I agree, they are both emotionally immature.

      Delete
  35. Philip Moss, otherwise known as Agony Uncle Phil, as a local builder he is ever able to drop work and be a good citizen to those who require his emotional support. He grasped the opportunity to become involved with a vulnerable Kirsty, progressing from bird watching to dinner with his son. Shula had crush on him, which gave him entry to the hunt and the ball. He has become best friends with Alistair and is now giving him advice on how she should be feeling, on the basis that he had been there and done mediation with his ex wife.
Is he to good to be true, or just an honest and upright member of the community?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Even a nice, outgoing bloke, good at his work (Lil & Shula) who makes friends easily ? Not a typical Archer, that's all.

    ReplyDelete
  37. More on Philip: I don't suspect him of having any dark secrets, I just don't like him. After talking to him Shula decided that her marriage was lacking and now he's counselling her husband. Kirsty's going out with him against her principles, he has a son of 31, she's 37. We don't know why Philip divorced. He's an outsider who can see things from a different perspective, it's a well known literary device. There was Lexi in that role before him, now she's in a hands off relationship with Roy while trying to become a surrogate mother to another couple while leaving her daughters behind.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's been mentioned a few times that Alistair is boring, which is something most of us are. We live our daily lives, enjoy the little things, have a few close family members and friends. What is he suppose to offer Shula. She's got to make herself happy. If she feels in need of excitement, what is stopping her? She is now regretting that she may loose her friendship with Alistair, which is what I don't understand. Is it after 20 years, he brings some normality to her life, which I guess she would say is boring. What does she really want, which is not what we are hearing from her, and probably she doesn't know.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agreed that Shula doesn't seem to know what she wants. She doesn't want to to be married to Alistair but doesn't want to let him go.

      Delete
  39. Maybe Alistair’s apparent acceptance of the situation has taken the gloss off her dramatic announcement that the marriage is over. She is obviously shaken at his present attitude complaining that the process is clinical. What does she expect after the abrupt severance of their marriage when he least expected it? Like many of the Archers she has been spoilt in the past and just doesn’t know how lucky she has been to have him. She always wants more ! I think the secret of happiness is to be content with what you have.

    ReplyDelete

Or is all this extravagance for you, to show the family and the village that you are still good at organising such an event and not broken by the disaster at Home Farm? Does Ruth really want chandeliers and a Jazz band. You don’t really care, do you? Just as long as it makes you look good!

    1. I don't think that's fair, Archerphile - or true.

    2. There's at least some truth in the notion that Jennifer is doing it for herself: she said so. But she thinks the kind of event she'd be impressed by will be what Ruth wants too. Which it won't. Perhaps David will have a word and Ruth will be tactful.

  44. Too many ridiculous story lines. I may need to take a break from TA (don't worry - blog will go on).

    ReplyDelete
  45. Inclined to agree about ridiculous, Ruthy ! I wondered if I'd missed something last night - why does that straightforward, well balanced Johnny bother with the silly, wimpish 'posh' boy, Freddie ? How come he doesn't cotton on that F. is wetting himself when he sees the police because he's involved in the drug scene ? For goodness sake, he was witness last year at the IOW debacle.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Archerphile, at least Jennifer acknowledged honestly to David that organizing the party for Ruth was a godsend for her, after all the strain she's been through. She's in her element, & she loves it, is energised by a challenge she knows she can meet. That doesn't make her gratitude & affection for Ruth less genuine. What puzzles me is how David allows himself to be 'bullied', when he knows full well that all this extravagance isn't Ruth's scene. Actually, J. should know better too - jazz isn't everyone's choice, so on & so on.,..

    ReplyDelete
  47. I wonder, and did when listening, if Johnny does realise and is skilfully keeping Freddie in his ( Js) sights in a bid to keep F from getting even deeper in the proverbial.

I rather hope that Ruth does turn up in her jeans and possibly not wellies, but trainers perhaps.

    ReplyDelete
  48. In reply to Maryellen and Caroline regarding Jennifer organising Ruth’s party -
I still think Jennifer is not really thinking about what sort of party Ruth would really enjoy. She is full of ideas that would delight her, Jennifer, on such an occasion e.g. chandeliers and a jazz band. If she really thought about it she would realise that that is just not Ruth at all, who would be much happier with an DJ playing her favourite music and a more informal atmosphere.
This is, of course, partly (or mostly) David’s fault for not having the guts to speak up and guide Jennifer in the right direction, he is too afraid of upsetting her or seeming ungrateful for her help. He is just letting her indulge in all the things *she* thinks would make a great occasion rather than something Ruth would feel comfortable with and enjoy.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Archerphile, I agree entirely, I just cringe and hope that it'll be all right on the night for Ruth's and David's sake.

  49. For heavens sake Jenifer, it's not a 'happy ever after wedding', but sounds like it will cost as much. Marquee, Chandeliers, jazz band, flowers on pedestals and a disco. Has she mentioned the food yet? Will David have to make a speech? Let's hope the wind we are experiencing at the moment, will blow the marquee into the river Am, and take Kate's yurts along for company.
The dialogue between, David, Freddie and Jonny was so utterly boring I stopped listening by pushing the catch up line forward.
Does anyone care if Kate turns for the birthday party? Maybe Jenifer will invite Tattler or O.K magazine to take photos for the next issue.

    1. I would like to go to one of Jennifer's parties especially if she is doing the catering. I was slightly disappointed to hear she was using Fallon ( and presumably 48-hours in-a-day-Emma) because although I don't doubt Fallon is a good cook, Jennifer sounds superb!

  50. I always read the synopsis, if it's there, the following day and am often amused as to how inaccurate they are at times. For instance, today it says that Jennifer was hoping Kate would be home to welcome Phoebe back, I didn't remember that so I listened again, she said that she wanted Kate to be there for Ruth's party, a great family occasion. Perhaps it was in the script but didn't make it to the broadcast, just a minor irritation.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Good point Basia - when did we last hear anything about Phoebe? She should be down from Oxford by now - my grandson has been back from Leicester for two weeks - and yet we have not had a whisper about if she’s home, how she did in her first year exams or whether she will help Adam with strawberry picking ( an ideal candidate I should have thought). An nary a sound from Roy or Lexi either. All has gone very quiet on the surrogacy front!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Quite ! Not that I long to know the latest in the surrogacy S L. Also, can't deny that J. is on a roll, apparently forgetting all she knows about Ruth over many years, & ignoring David hesitatingly mentioning a local band he was thinking of hiring; Big Clue that was, but J. just rode on regardless....

    2. I saw students who'd just finished their exams (it tends to be obvious) in Oxford just a couple of days ago . Term ends on Saturday. I expect we'll hear from or about Phoebe soon. Is Konstantin (sp.?) expected this summer?

  52. Although the jazz band and chandeliers will definitely not be to Ruth's taste, I think she'll end up enjoying the party. Maybe the last part with the eighties music she'll get into it and have a lovely time.
I agree about Johnny being, or seeming to be, absolutely clueless about what Freddie's up to. How pathetic to hear Ellis using "the feds" for the police which, I understand, is common now among London gangs but seems to have reached Ambridge.

  53. I am wondering if Jennifer is keeping David up-to-date with the cost of this "party"?

    1. After all She is organising + planning it, but at the emd David will be paying for it. He might have been better to take Ruth away for a lovely, luxorious weekend and also had a family "Do" at Brookfield, or a Pie + Chips event in The Bull, for all of Ambridge to join in.

  54. Ruthy. I am surprisingly liking some of the more unrealitic story-lines. These will reach a conclusion. Why not read the synopsis on Lowfield The Archers. It will keep you up to date, without listening.

  55. Ironic that Elizabeth, who has, hilariously & totally, misunderstood Lily's problem, should be the one to cause Jill to reflect on 'being a mum'; it had a good outcome, though, as the giving of unconditional love allowed Shula some release. I found that a touching scene.
That said, wasn't convinced by Jill's apparent acceptance of Lily's supposed sexuality, whilst remaining so opposed to divorce. That may be predictabably, & timorously, PC of the BBC, but it doesn't ring true for a woman of her generation who's led a life of narrow horizons. She's far more likely to accept divorce, albeit reluctantly, given it's so much more common over the last 50 years, than to be cool about a grand daughter being gay, only recently being openly acknowledged & accepted. Jill balked at female clergy, I recall - she's not in tune with societal change.

  56. Heavens to Murgatroyd, Kate is a forty something woman, Lilian is spot on, she flounced off, and Jenifer is worried that Pheobe will want Kate to be around when she returns from Oxford. Will Pheobe be shocked Kate has "flounced off" I don't think so.
Cry baby Shula wants every thing in the garden to be rosey, but Alistair is not playing the game, as she wanted. Does she even know what she wants? She expects the split to be like weeding a graveyard, a nice and tidy divorce, but let's live in the same house same as before!!

  57. Dear Lynda, so predictable, so transparent, quite reassuring in a way : yes, she's 'taking a back seat' over community events, but will stick her oar in every time; adog show ! Of course, chance to show off & win hands down, especially in competition with Lilian....

  58. If Dave has to pay for the chandeliers and a jazz quarter, he should have said NO.

  59. I am thinking about the Ambridge Dog Show, in that who will win the category of which owner looks most like their dog. Will it be Lilian or Lynda? This is difficult at it is not yet known, what breed of dog Ruby is.
Perhaps I have missed that vital piece of information. Please inform me.

  60. Not just a dog show though. Wasn't it suggested, possibly, ANY pet animals.
An opportunity for Linda to enter the Llamas, ( or is there only one now ? )
Hers would be the only entry.
Unless, of course other, unknown, residents have Llamas too.

  61. Been on the sidelines for a bit but have to post tonight!
Well done Brian! My BP was getting sky high until he "told it like it is" to Jenny's darling Kate. (To be fair though both have done the spoiling over the years.)
" Oh grow up its not nursery Kate" Yay......
Sent an e.mail to Woman's Hour yesterday to support the ongoing cause.

Mrs P so pleased you are now able to drive - a physiological lift to be able to come and go at will once again!

  62. I really hope that Ed keeps his young ram "Peppa Pig". He (the ram) did not do well today, but in another 8-12 months, it just might be a very different outcome.

  64. Forgot to mark June Spencer's 99th birthday yesterday! Here's hoping she is still playing Peggy 14/6/19 on her 100th that would be quite something...

Could the sale of Peppa Pig be able to contribute to Ed & Emma's future house purchase?

    1. I thought it interesting that Emma didn't make, or at least comment upon, the fact that the £500 for the purchase of the lambs that she had been so reluctant to allow Ed to shell out, was now fully justified by the £4000 offered for Peppa Pig.

  65. I was disappointed that Kate didn't manage to spike Brian's guns this evening - I was anticipating that she would sell outside the partnership and had a couple of interesting possibilities lined up - but I guess the small print took care of that as well!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm glad it was Kate's guns that were spiked. She was in her own world with her dreams, and thought she could do what she liked. I confess I don't always, but she should have read the small print - especially when making a decision to sell up. I don't mean to be mean to Kate saying this.

    1. Whereas Brian doesn't think he can do what he likes, of course!

  67. Why not be mean to Kate ? She's pretty mean to everyone else. 'Spiritual Homes' - how ironic ( seems to be my favourite word today) We have never witnessed anything spiritual about her, only secondhand jargon spinning, & as for 'home', she has spectacularly failed to make one, here or in SA. (oh, as Phoebe finds her consistently exasperating, the 'quality time' has to be a joke)

  68. Regarding Kate's behaviour Had I been in Brian's shoes and were it possible I would have cut her off without a penny if she had spoken to me the way she spoke to him.
    I was appalled.
    Spoilt little rich girl.

  69. Brian has the partnership all stitched up, always read the small print. Kate doesn't know her father very well.

  70. I am wondering does Kate actually own her cottage, which I believe she is renting out, while she "sponges off" Brian, whilst living at Home Farm.
Can she sell it without the "partners" approval, as it is on Home Farm land? ....and who is it listed with, as per the Land Registary?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Interesting point about the cottage Miriam. I am not sure of the answer. Did anyone notice Kate saying to Brian something about “but I... “ as if she may have already signed a contract with someone on the Kent coast?

    ReplyDelete
  72. There's a strong similarity between Lynda & Kate, in that they are both pretentious - L. spouting her lit. crit. credentials, K. her spiritual/therapeutic insights, equally self deluded. It's not even the words that come out of their mouths, can imagine some of what they say being taken straightforwardly spoken by others, but their superior tone. All credit to the actors, who clearly understand the characters they're playing !
Do you blame Brian on this, Stasia ? Not sure myself, but I guess he would say the partnership is written the way it is, small print & all, in everyone's interest, & for the future of the family business.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I thought that Kate and Alice were given a Cottage each .
Nothing to do with "partners" but I may well be wrong.
Yes,Seasider I thought the same as you.

  74. Carolyn,I suppose that both Jennifer and Brian should be blamed for the way their two youngest children have behaved.
    They have both been ruined.
On the other hand ,surely a young woman shouldn't speak to her father in the way she did?

    1. The fact that. Brian is Kate's father doesn't mean she (and her adult siblings) can't tell him a few home truths - any more than the fact that he is Jenny's husband prevents her from upbraidung him. As for the idea of 'respect' shown to family seniors, Brian has forfeited any claim to his family's respect several times over. It's a bit rich - Brian pointing out that Kate can't have her own way, when that is precisely what he has always done himself. He expects his family to fall in behind him, whether it's in their best interests or not - which is why Ruth the outsuder, who is not dependent on him in any way, poses an advantage n xpected threat..And now Kate.

  75. Lanjan, you say 'young woman' but Kate recently celebrated her 40th birthday!
Granted, she sounded like a sulky child when Brian pointed out she couldn't have her own way.
