Life in Ambridge

  1. FROM END OF PREVIOUS BLOG

I think I’ve found a cure for the Coronavirus. Just ship in Lillian who will tell us to pull ourselves together, whilst waving her wand and cackling “you jolly well will get better, or else the Bull will revert to the B, dahling” cackle, cackle.

    MrsP I’m a dissenter.

    1. When it comes to Ed & Emma, I too am a dissenter - too much bitterness & too much baggage. Why on earth can't they look outside their immediate circle for a partner? History tells us (and them!) that it can only end in tears.

  2. THE BULL is back. Hooray!
And the proper picture at the top of the page.
    Well done Gary

  3. Spicycushion regarding your last (completely factual) post on the old blog re scripts and recordings etc of course this why we now have some weeks in the can 🤗
However such was the case when foot and mouth broke out and it was too big a story to ignore admittedly farming based but still huge ramifications around everyone’s lives, and 9/11 too horrendous to be ignored even if by the odd rewritten paragraph.
Happy though to go with the flow rather than lose the programme and with all current restrictions would be difficult to achieve re recording anyway as practically every aspect of life has changed both off and on the radio ☹️

  4. It's sad that TA will cease recording, but it is a wise decision, to protect all those we know, and love.
I hope that there will still be TA every night, utilising previous episodes + events, from earlier years, but not too far back.
I would love to hear Ambridge in the 1990's.
The reason being, that many of the current cast are in Ambridge, but are younger.
I would to hear them all, in their earlier years, which is now 30yrs ago.

  5. I did say Blake was warming up his lunch.

  6. Aha !
So all you Phillip naysayers were correct in your instincts.
    Well done !

I didn't know one way or the other whether he was a goodun or a badun.

    1. Oooh noooo!
We've discussed Philip in the past and I've always been inclined to think the best of him.
So hearing him saying they were pretending he was Blake's uncle came as a shock. As for the ensuing conversation, words fail me.

It's a good job Ambridge is in a hermetically sealed bubble - there's going to be quite enough fall-out when all this becomes known.

      Poor Kirsty : (

  7. So both Gavin and Philip seem to be up to their neck in what sounds suspiciously like a modern day slavery story, a bold topic on the part of the script writers.

Meanwhile Brian has picked up on Phoebe’s concerns and is getting Roy sorted, hopefully before any long term damage.

All in all a satisfying episode

  8. Brian showed much more understanding to Roy than he'd just shown to Adam.

    1. With Adam it was business, with Roy, he experienced something very similar.

  9. I couldn't have been more wrong all these months ! 😗
Philip IS running a dodgy business - using illegal immigrant labour ? Wow.
Other bloggers had better instincts there, notably Lanjan.

Only a matter of time & Kirsty will be devastated. Enter Roy stage left, with bandaged head, but on the mend, ready & willing to be her knight in shining armour....

Impressed with Brian tonight, the way he was with Jenny, Adam & especially with poor Roy.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Also, in his conversation with the doctor Philip seemed concerned that Blake was not talking as he is a bubbly kind of person, now we know he was secretly pleased.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It is a shocking subject to explore, in Ambridge of all places.
    Well done the TA team.
Yes, poor Kirsty, shes chosen another wrongun yet again.
But I don't remember Shula ever mentioning Philips workmen as being from abroad, or did that pass me by.

  12. P Tb Y and I are not gloating.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I too haven't liked Philip since he told someone back in the days when Ed was illegally dealing at night, "Just do it!"
If it is illegal foreign labour surely 'Blake' isn't very foreign is it?
If Gavin was supposed to feed Blake before work then are they housing them somewhere and treating then like 'slaves' as Gavin called them?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I sooooo remember the "Just do it!" - I think a few of us remarked on it & subsequently thought he was a bad 'un!

    2. I don't remember that at all. Perhaps I missed that episode.

Rob, Tim, Philip. What's up with all these 'nice' new blokes turning out to be wolves in sheep's clothing?

Let's hope Lee and Leonard don't turn out to be baduns too.

  14. Poor Kirsty, she's in for such a shock but, yes Carolyn, Roy will come to the rescue. This story will be long drawn out with severe repercussions for both Philip and Gavin. Good on you Brian - Roy needs to be examined and you did the right thing.

  15. LanJan and PtbY
    I apologise!
Seems like you were right and I had the wool pulled right over my eyes!
I am so sorry that Phil, with his lovely Welsh accent, has turned out to be a real wrong’un.
That Gav is too, doesn’t surprise me so much.

    But poor, poor Kirsty!
Perhaps she will end up looking after Roy who may need nursing care after his bang on the head!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ha. I flipping told you he was a bad un. And yes, Lanjan, I’m gloating.
By gum, old Philip has a temper on him grabbing his son by the throat. Please let Kirsty escape his evil clutches.
Loved the way Brian said he’d give Roy a lift now as he had his car here. Well of course he’d have his car.....he lives next door for gods sake!!!

  17. I was initially suspicious of Philip because of his support for fox hunting (seemed a strange match for Kirsty). Then I started coming round as his relationship with Kirsty developed. I couldn't work out where things were going with the arrival of Gavin on the scene. Now our worst fears are realised. The script writers do play with us, don't they? But let's be honest, that's what we like!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well it looks bad for Phillip but the “forecasts” were based on guesswork from an instant dislike and not evidence. I prefer to see how the story develops. Don’t understand gloating!

  19. No,no.no.Pierre
There were subtle hints that PtbY and I picked up on as well as the “Just do it “ episode.

    1. Ah! I see Lanjan. My excuse is I am a man and we are not good at subtle.

  20. I don’t think Philip is necessarily a bad un or a good un, but a mixed un - like so many. He has his nice side, as Janine was pointing out the other day, and I remember too. It’s that side Kirsty has fallen in love with and it’s not going to go away overnight.

I thought the same as Spicycushion about ‘Blake’.

    1. There was one such gang in Cheltenham a family who eventually went to prison for gang slavery. Vulnerable adults kept in appealing conditions. One or two farms in this rural area have also been done for slavery. Nasty business so I’m not surprised about Philip and his horrible son.
I also took a dislike to him, wheedling his way into Ambridge. He joins the hunt, takes up bird watching, does freebies, buys humongous televisions, nearly crashes the National Grid with all his light up chrismas paraphernalia. Son and father =the Welsh mafia.

  21. Like Spicy I was thinking Blake could have been vulnerable in some way, possibly Philip has deluded himself into thinking he was helping his workers and hence his anger with Gavin referring to slaves.

    1. This really could be the case ( clutchng at straws here, given a previous P. supporter !) Not any less reprehensible, of course.

    2. Yes,I thought that, illegal but not necessarily full-blown slavery.

  22. Kirsty can now go back and live at Roy’s place.
She can look after him as he goes through his stages of dementia which may or may not be being signalled.
That is where she should be
After the “honeymoon period “ with a Phillip it would never have worked.
Of course I may be wrong and she will stay with him but if she does she will rue.

    1. Don't think it's dementia, Lanjan, but severe concussion, because the untreated head wound has been referred to so frequently this last week.
Now joining you & others in hoping that this all round disaster brings Roy & Kirsty ever closer !
I know this sounds as if the only way to contentment has to be with a partner, but it's a natural way, & Kirsty has been dealt such a lousy hand in relationships, as indeed has Roy (albeit losing Hayley was entirely his own fault), it would be great to see people like them find happiness.

  23. Just one small point, when Philip shouted down the phone: just do it, it was to Gavin.
What amused was when Brian listed Roy's three slip ups: car, wedding, slippers.
When he said wedding instead of engagement he was telling the truth and then covered it up.
Whether it was due to his injury or not we don't know but it added to the list.

  24. I detect a certain amount of gloating going on here and I admit I was wrong to support Philip.

But I admire the Editor for opening an opportunity to explore the dreadful ‘modern slavery’ business and for highlighting what goes on, especially in country districts.
I hope the whole story of the rotten Moss enterprise is thoroughly investigated and we hear, eventually, that he is charged and imprisoned. (My goodness, never thought I’d be saying this!)

I am now even thinking that Philip might have been associated with Dodgy Tim and his fertiliser scam. Could that be why Philip didn’t want to employ Ed - in case he recognised any of the Mosses other employees and put two and two together?
    The plot thickens!

    1. The question of Philip being Mr Big was mooted by bloggers at the time of Ed’s criminal association with Tim. It was a bit of a joke. It seems this editor is trying to emulate Sean O’Connor in introducing issues of nationwide concern, but if the historical abuse issue is anything to go by, will avoid Sean’s uncompromising stance and water themdown for us.

  25. The gloating is justified ! The SWs have been smart with the listeners. Lots of us fell for Mr Nice Guy, &, in my case at any rate, partly because it was good to see Kirsty happy.

Wondered, & queried last night, whether it was illegal immigrants, but agree with Stasia that 'vulnerable adults' covers it better, covering a number of vulnerabilities.

  26. Reported on fb that that the members of the cast who could be there have been in the studio this past week and recorded episodes to take TA up to the beginning of May.
We may have to wait a while then for some story resolutions until all relevant cast members are available.

  27. P tbY and I were saying that either Phillip or Gavin is Mr Big.
I can’t remember which of us said which one .was the real baddy and which was the weak follower
    P tbY will know.
As you know I never trusted Phillip from the off.
He suddenly appeared when he did Lilian’s bathroom.
He soon became knowledgeable about everything.
    Best mates with Alastair .
    Mr nice friendly guy.
He wasn’t exactly “smooth” just a tiny bit oleaginous for my liking.
I was unfair to him then because he hadn’t done anything wrong .
I think I felt like that because I didn’t -and don’t -think he is good enough for Kirsty..
She deserves happiness and I hope it is with Roy.

    1. It’s not going to happen quickly, this could be a long-drawn out story - but I can imagine a devastated Kirsty seeking refuge with Roy when she learns the truth about the man she thinks she is going to marry. And I just hope she does find out before they marry!

Once back in Roys home she may we’ll become involved with caring for and supporting him if, as we suspect, he has acquired some sort brain damage from the explosion.
Over a longish period of time, with Roy hopefully restored to normality, they could well become a couple, married or not.
I have always liked them both and would like to think they could make each other happy after the trials and tribulations they have both been through.

  28. I think you said Gavin Lanjan. I said Philip. Think they’ll turn out to be as bad as each other.
When I said I was gloating....it was tongue in cheek!
Can’t wait for Sunday evening now!!

  29. PtbY and LJ -
Your instincts appear to have been sound, so gloat away.......

I think we all remember the ' just do it' moment and had mixed feelings about what it meant. But it was indicative of another side to the apparently gentle Welshman and gave us all food for thought.

Philip is obviously a clever and devious man with a son following in his footsteps perhaps. Many of us were uncomfortable with the way he appeared to worm his way into Ambridge community and I wonder if his initial contact with Lillian might indicate a past association with Matt. It's not impossible.

He was very sharp with Gavin when the word ' slave' was used, suggesting to me that Philip is in denial about the true extent to which he is exploiting his labour force, if he is.
Because of course at this stage we do not know how many red herrings we have been fed in order to keep us guessing.

  30. I am so disappointed with Philip.😥

    ReplyDelete
  31. My only concern re Philip, was how quickly he has been able to fit in jobs.
These include, to name just a few:-
    The Hunt dog kennels.
    Lilian's "en-suite"
    The Ambridge playground
    The Brookfield Wedding Barn work
    The Grey Gables drains.

Any good builder, is booked up, for months, in advance.

I feel for both Gavin + Kirsty, as to what might be revealed.
I think Gavin has been spying, thinking things are not right, as seemed.
