I was intrigued about three objects last night: Roy's missing phone, Gavin's energy drink for him and the wok which Tracy tried to appropriate. There's no connection and Tracy owned up but I'm suspicious about the phone an a good will gesture.

    Agree.

  2. Oh I just assumed Roy had misplaced his phone and wondered if they are trying to tell us that sadly he is starting with dementia .
There have been one or two episodes of this kind recently with Roy.
I missed the energy drink bit and I think Tracy just wanted to keep the wok.

  3. Oh very good Gary!! 😄👏👏😄
My first laugh of the day!

Mind you memory is a funny old thing. I was sure I remembered getting very annoyed about the way Charles Ingram was answering his questions and it turns out ITV never broadcast his winning the £1 million! There you go!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I missed the energy drink as well but I remember Roy talking about his new phone on the night out and Gavin taking an interest. I think the wok thing was a silly red herring to mix up with the lost phone and set us wondering whether either or both were sinister or not.

    1. Gary, another witty heading - you’re so good at this, but don’t let it go to your head.😉

  5. Fantastic Gary, I was expecting that outcome for Roy. Drunk, minus phone lying in a ditch.
I;did;laugh at Roy’s comment about being surprised at Harrison’s pedantic decision for not accepting Gavin on to the team.
Lovely coming from the man who is the ultimate In pedantry.

  6. Pips parenting skills would be a delight to any psychologist!
The only words Rosie will learn not to respond to are, NO, DON’T, and other negative comments. Eventually Rosie will morph into Nosie.

    1. You can hear identical mother/child dialogue most any day, most anywhere. I thought it was very true to modern life. (My mother only had to say “don’t “once - but I expect nowadays that would be regarded as the result of a repressive regime!)

    2. Very good Gary 👏🏻 🤗 I was just so surprised Pip was actually looking after her own daughter 🤣

    3. Lady R, she wasn't - poor Rosie was left to entertain herself in the sandpit whilst Mummy was busy chatting.
The poor mite was wondering what exactly she needed to do to get Mummy to come and build a sandcastle for her to knock down. If she'd had a spade she would have dug herself under the sand with only her nose showing and then waited to see how long it took for Mummy to realise she'd disappeared.

  7. Brilliant picture Gary, and you are quite right on the other blog. Matt did say Oh you to whoever approached him after the accident. I think the people who don't remember this didn't listen to the evening episode but to the afternoon one next day by which time it had been altered.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I wonder if Gavin took Roy's phone so he could check his texts to see if he had perhaps been communicating with anyone about suspicions re Philip.

    1. That was my thought, Janice. Then using the energy drink excuse to slip it back in his sports bag.

    2. I agree but unlikely to be solved by Thursday - last available episode for a while 🥺

    3. Roy is now in Kirsty's bad books.
If the pair aren't talking, there's less chance of him alerting Kirsty to the Devious Duo's Dastardly Deeds before she and Philip tie the knot.

Unfortunately for Gavin, it sounds as though Lockdown will now fall on Ambridge before Wedlock can occur - hurrah!

  9. I agree with Maryellen and thought Pip with Rosie was very normal.
My point about young mothers today, is that they don't understand how effective the word ' NO' in a sharp voice can be.
As ME says, it's perceived as repressive, whereas it is usually protective.
My dog understands the word, why not children !

    1. Eldest Child in a Shoe's first word was 'No'!

I did read at the time of an American psychologist who said we shouldn't say the awful word to our children because it cramped their creativity. My response was that running into the road and getting knocked over was likely to cramp it even more ...

  10. Late to the blog today and it’s changed with a brilliant picture at the top - so apt Gary!
I too was suspicious of the missing phone
My thought was that Gav had pinched it from Roy in the alley to see if there was any incriminating material on it re the Mosses. Then he slipped it into Roys bag at the CC with the drink. Otherwise, why all that detail in the episode?
Or perhaps it was done to make Roy look as if he’s becoming forgetful/ brain injured, so nobody will take any notice of things he says about the explosion/Kent etc.

As for Susan and the wok - couldn’t care less about it I’m afraid. A waste of precious Archer time.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, I was even more suspicious about the phone, thinking that they may have put in a tracking device just like Rob did. I like the explanation as to the energy drink, let's see.

Matt's oh you was followed by switch your headlights off.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Tracking device! Actually regarding Gavins’s comment to his dad about not to worry it sounds very feasible Basia.

      Delete
    2. Agreed Basia, so Matt’s ‘oh you’ (which to me sounded as if he recognised the driver) and ‘switch your headlights’ off came before the collision, not afterwards (plus footsteps) as Keri Davis said. Agreed Gary, memory is a funny thing for all of us -- including Keri Davis.

      Delete
    3. Ah, but maryellen, the 'oh you' which you heard isn't on the clip:
      https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/4zdzL7W9GvtgMDywpWlG9qT/the-full-story-what-happened-the-night-of-matts-hit-and-run
Therefore, like the footsteps, it was never said ; )

  12. I am marveling at everyone's recall about episodes so long ago!!

  13. Wouldn't it make more sense for Gavin to have put something very, very nasty on Roy's phone after "borrowing" it & then turned up at cricket practice to slip it back into his bag. Any credibility Roy would have as any sort of witness or whistle blower to the slavery racket would be blown if the police were tipped off he had some truly appalling images or internet history on his phone.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Frankly I don't think Gavin has the brain or know how to corrupt a phone. Technology is very sophisticated that it it can pin you down to every precise moment..and the police have the means to check.

      Delete
    2. I think most people under the age of 40 know everything there is to know about phones. Roy's new phone probably hadn't had a password or finger/eye activation started yet. Gavin could have done it whilst Roy was practically standing beside him.

    3. What hope do us more seniors have??
I am staying with what I know best.
Gavin obviously knows a lot, and can so use his knowledge.

  14. I am also late tonight.

    What a brilliant photo, Gary.
This made me laugh, and I hope that this is an episode, which will be heard again. 👣

    I hadn't thought about a tracking app.
    How brilliant...😀😀

    Well Done, who suggested this

  15. What ages are Philip + Gavin?

    Perhaps I have missed this.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now we know why Gavin helped himself to Roy's new phone.

    Divide and rule !

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ah so nasty Gavin, pretending to be Roy used Roy’s phone to cancel the DJ did he ?
What I can’t understand is why the DJ took the word of someone who was not one of the pair to be married.
It will all come out when Kirsty finds out that the person doing the cancellation had a Welsh accent!

I doubt that will be in the next couple of days though.

  18. The mention tonight, about the TA/Ambridge VE day celebrations, was lovely.
This will be far more poignant, than it was originally planned.
It will how things will be, when "Lockdown" finally + completely ends, whenever that is.

  20. Basia: 'Matt's oh you was followed by switch your headlights off.'

His words *before* were 'I love you': https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/4zdzL7W9GvtgMDywpWlG9qT/the-full-story-what-happened-the-night-of-matts-hit-and-run

The footsteps will run and run .... (Or walk and walk)
I cannot be sure anymore whether or not I heard them in the original broadcast. But I *do* remember Matt saying 'You' in a tone that suggested he recognised whoever he saw.
This is not in the clip either.
There is, however, the sound of a door shutting, immediately after the bump - with no time for it to have been opened, let alone for anyone to have got out of the car to check for casualties/damage. Sounds like slapdash re-editing to me.
According to Will, Nic got out of the car, saw someone/something lying in the ditch and tried to call for help but couldn't get a signal. Poppy was howling so she got back in the car to drive home.

A lot, therefore, happened in those condensed seconds between crash and car door. Can we really be certain there weren't footsteps in the bit that got cut out to make the episodes fit into the omnibus slot?

Gary, Keri didn't happen to mention access to a copy of the original script by any chance, did he?

  21. I've just looked at the photos of the cast recording from home.
I see poor Ben is stuck in his bedroom again. At least the Beeb had the sense to bug it this time, so he won't spend months incommunicado again as he was last time. (Actually, Ruth sent him up to his room for failing to take his turn to stack the dishwasher then forgot to tell him he could come down again.)

Someone mentionned yesterday they feared Emma was off to pastures new. According to the lovely Emerald in her Youtube interview (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpb2APnfl0c), she adores the Archers and will ensure that whatever opportunities come her way, she'll still make sure she keeps on as Emma. But I do think her move out was good timing. Well, would you want to spend lockdown stuck at home with Susan? (Even the ever-patient Neil is going to have his equanimity sorely stretched - unless he decides the pigs need a live-in manager for the duration.)

  24. I agree with you Mrs P that it was not obvious where to find the information about what is happening .
I am not sure that I will be listening to the episodes they are going to broadcast.
Unfortunately the Gavin/Blake/Phillip /Kirsty business won’t be sorted this week.
Maybe Emma’s new abode will be.
Could she be taking over some of the upstairs rooms at “The Bull” do you think?
It would be handy for her work .

I'm trying to find the Archers in my online edition (courtesy of the library) and it's taking ages to load up each page. I used to check it weekly but then I discovered the Evening Standard's online crossword and my main reason for checking the RT got neglected.

  25. Last nights episode was a load of cricketing nonsense.
At least the team will be able to play and keep socially distanced.
The batters will be 2metres apart, Roy will be placed in the Square Leg position, Tracy will be in the long grass shouting her orders.
Harrison in the Gully, humming and dithering,
Jolene will be in Silly Mid off wondering why she agreed to play.
I’m getting bored with myself just like Ambridge when eventually lockdown is imposed.
At least they won’t have to endure cricket.

  27. I wonder where Emma is moving to, and how she will pay the rent?
I am sure properties in Ambridge and nearby, would be far too expensive for her. Perhaps, she has half of the deposit that she + Ed had (after their house sale didn't happen), but where is it??
I can't think of anything vacant, unless another property on The Green, has become suddenly available.
All I know about The Green is, that Will owns No.1, Tracy + her family live in another - but who else lives there?
    Just curious.

    1. What about April Cottage or Blossom Hill cottage?
I cannot recall, who is actually living in these properties at the moment, but perhaps one has become vacant.

I had so hoped, that He + Lizzie, became an item, along with his daughter (Jessie?), to have become, another youngster in Ambridge.

  30. So, in Ambridge "flying the nest" means camping in your in-laws' yard (which they've only got thanks to a very charitable landlord). For her sake, I was hoping that Emerald O'Hanrahan was going to follow Felicity Jones on the road to Oscar nomination. From our point of view, though, I'm glad one of the best actors is staying in the cast.

  31. Ed♥️Emma. Yes I am also really pleased that we got to hear this before the break and the family can be together during the virus. Looks like Leonie and Mungo might also be quarantined in Ambridge, unless it’s a quick visit to prepare the rooms for the guests who will have to cancel.

  40. Yes LanJan, I agree with you there, their acting and their empathy towards each other makes them all the more real.

  46. To add I’m sure Ed & Em would have made it back together anyway but I think it likely that some re writing has had to be put in place to facilitate the new order that is to come!
When at the 60th anniversary dear Nigel was killed off (grrr) little did we imagine what was in store for us and the world in the lead up to the 70th ☹️

  47. A well conceived & executed move, Emma, to prove you really have shifted your priorities - actions rather than words ! ( presumably she had Oliver's permission to put the static home on his land & it's up to him whether or not to charge her ground rent & a portion of his council tax)
Very much agree with everyone (except Gary !) that it is good to see Emma & Ed together again, as clearly it was Meant To Be...

That still leaves Gavin's nasty trick with Roy's 'phone/the arrest of Moss & Son/ the collapse of Kirsty's world, all to come, which can't possibly happen tonight, can it ?!

  52. The thing that I most liked about Ed ‘n’ Emma’s reconciliation last night was Emma’s admission that she has ‘grown up’ and that previously she was behaving like a child, wanting the world.
She certainly sounded far more grounded and to have realised, at long last, that a happy family is far more than important than mere possessions.
    Well done Emma.
Wishing you both a long and happy life together en famille.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I genuinely don't understand this outpouring of affection for Ed and Emma as a couple! They are miserable failure made flesh in my eyes. Just a litany of disastrous decisions, one after the other. And for Emma to think that any grown man would be delighted to be surprised by a caravan parked on his parents lawn by his estranged wife for him to play happy families in is laughable. The very house her ex-husband is living in! And to think they've done it all before - but I suppose at least Ed isn't a junkie this time.

The children will be distraught having to live in a caravan. There's no romanticising it to them. No fresh start for them. Just poor kids with the terrible misfortune to have two rubbish people as parents.

  63. The obvious thing for Roy to have done was to telephone the DJ and ask who had made the cancellation.
Presumably the DJ would have said a Mr Roy Tucker at which point Roy would have asked if the person sounded like him.
When the DJ said that he didn’t and had a a Welsh accent ,the penny would have dropped.
Then of course we would see the really nasty side of Phillip.
He would put all the blame on his son so that Kirsty wouldn’t suspect that he had anything to do with it

    Well it isn’t too late.
When Roy finds out he has not had concussion and he has a chat with Harrison ,the latter who already suspects the young Welshman will listen to what Roy has to say .
Of course Gavin will shop his father and......dum de dum de dum de dum.

  65. Well, as I said a week ago, a week too early in fact - That’s All Folks!

At the moment I can’t imagine how the Editor is going to explain the gap between the planned wedding, which is supposed to be very soon and when we actually hear what happened.

Will events be put on hold and broadcast as if there has been no gap, or will we just hear about it by dint of characters discussing what happened about the wedding/the Moss business?

I do hope it is the former because I really want to be a guest at the ‘wedding reception’ and a fly on the wall when Philip & son get banged to rights.
I don’t want to miss a thing, in fact.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I hope we hear it too Archerphile.
Since Ambridge is a parallel world, surely there is a way where the ' gap' can be overcome and today is followed by tomorrow, but a month later.
T A does not have parallel dates attached to it, so I don't see why we could just not forget the gap.

The above may be somewhat convoluted but I hope others get my meaning.

I certainly don't want to hear an explanation of the fall of the Moss empire given as an afterthought by Susan.
I don't mind Susan recounting it several times to different people though as long as we have heard each gory detail in full as it happens.

  67. I agree heartily MrsP. and Archerphile I want to hear the Mosses get their come-uppance in real tme. I could manage to forget the gap.

  68. Just to clear things up: first after recovering his phone Roy received a strange voicemail from the DJ about the deposit which had already been paid. When Kirsty rang him he forwarded her a cancellation text (I said email) sent from Roy's phone in the early hours of Tuesday morning after the stag night. It was the missing phone that was instrumental which Roy had "mislaid" in the dark alley and miraculously found in his kit bag.

Like above I'd like Moss & Co to go down in my hearing and not recounted second hand.

  69. I just hope the wedding is stalled before Kirsty finds out what her fiancé has been up to, whether that’s because of an arrest or because of the virus. Actually no, I hope the arrest is soon so that those men can be released from their hell.

The writers can easily report the postponement of the wedding to us, because of the virus, and as few people know, most will think it’s just the engagement party that’s off. A bit of protection for Kirsty from another public wedding embarrassment and
time for the arrest to take place soon after we are back on air.

  70. Thanks to several of you for pointing out to me that “Roy” sent an email and didn’t use the ‘phone.
I missed that one and thought I had cracked it.
I agree about how we are going to hear about the demise of the Welsh con men.
I want the lot coming out and then them to to be banged up in gaol or at least sent back to Cymru..

  71. From The Archers official Twitter account - "When new episodes return on 25 May the date in Ambridge will be the same as that in the rest of the world."

    ReplyDelete
  72. Re the unveiling of Philip and Gavin. It has suddenly occurred to me that if Ambridge going to be enveloped in the same pandemic as the rest of us, it could be very likely that their slave labourers could be laid low with the virus in the period when we are hearing no up-to-date news, and the whole nasty affair could be exposed by the authorities. If so, we should hear about it when 'normal' episodes resume at the end of this month. Maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  73. So we will have a 'gap' as we predicted. I can live with that, just as long as Moss and Co get their comeuppance in duplicate, and we get to hear it.
Although if we have ' lost' a month, we may under those circumstances have to make do with a retrospective dramatic denouement.

Sorry about the fallout for Kirsty, but that seems to be her karma.

    Thanks for confirming Gary.

And that's a good point Suz, as well as being a neat solution.

  74. I am still confused about what is happening re The Archers?
Are we going into repeats of earlier episodes - or not.
I just, do not know what to expect, on Sunday/Monday
Can any-one tell me, what to expect, next week and why.

I just need an up-date, which I seem to have missed.
    Sorry if I have..😥

    1. Next week from Sunday -Thursday there will be a selection of weddings and a funeral taken from the past twenty years of broadcasts. I could tell you exactly which ones but that would be giving spoilers!
The following two weeks will also be episodes taken from the past two decades following different themes.
Then, as from 25th May we will hear the new-style recordings from actors homes until the cast are allowed to record in the Birmingham studios again.

  75. As I've gathered, Miriam, it's snippets from episodes going back to 2000 until 25th May, after which we return to recorded episodes, but from actors' homes, not the studio. Earlier today, it was said here that dates in Ambridge from 25th, will correspond to real life.

The interesting question posed so often here, & no doubt on other sites, is how will current SLs be resolved iin the Ambridge lockdown ? Will it be reported that it was a shame the K & P party, & marriage had to be postponed, so the whole story will be friozen, or will the anticipated fallout be reported, heads shaken etc., etc ? Of course, the TA team don't know yet if lockdown will be eased at all by 25/5, or, if at all, by how much, so it's a pretty tricky situation for the team to work round !

  76. Does anyone else remember when the Sunday omnibus edition (I think) was headed by an introduction by Tom Forrest recalling the events of the previous week? Or is my memory playing tricks on me? I can imagine that the writers could use something of the sort when the newly recorded episodes start again at the end of May - filling in the gap with events as seen from different points of view.

    1. I certainly remember that. He gave a synopsis of the wek and some interesting country lore.

  77. Thanks All, for your info for next week, and for also not giving any "spoilers", which is so appreciated.
My latest TV/radio guide, (which is not the RT), has not yet, sadly, been received.
But then it is a lot cheaper 😀

    1. RT doesn't give spoilers either, really. Just the 4 weddings & a funeral which we already know about.

  78. I loved the times, when after the Sunday Omnibus, the radio was then switched to R4ex, for The Archers Extra.
How I so enjoyed this "extra" to learn so much more.

  79. I could see that the wedding could be postponed because of social distancing which would mean that there wouldn't be a party so the 'Happy' couple may not want to give up the party.
I suspect that they could stretch the Moss story for another month.

Suz Yes Tom Forrest used to introduce the Omnibus edition, mainly nature notes though. It wouldn't need him to recall what had happened because the listener was just about to hear it!

It takes about 2-3 months to write, re-draft, rehearse, record a week's episode so the S/Ws will be writing the episodes for June and July. Really glad I'm not trying to plan that!

    1. BBC TA page does give the which episodes are going to broadcast up to 15th May if anyone's interested. I'm not going to bother I'm afraid.
Keep the music coming please and book recommendations!

  80. Certainly remember Uncle Tom Forrest's introductions.
Not sure whether I'll listen next week, was looking forward to a break from Emmur's weary tones.

Won’t be listening to the fill-in episodes?
Sounds like you are really fed up with TA, will you be tuning in for the home-recorded episodes or not listening until things are back to normal, who knows when?

  82. I can't see me listening to any of the older episodes but l will be on our blog at least once a day to keep up with the news. I haven't finished listening to the "Cosmos" series GG recommended so that will be my replacement every night at 7. l hope you all keep well and l forgot to say thank you for your welcome back and good wishes.

  83. My first TA blog post ever was about having seen what I thought was a very large (too large to be British) snake wriggling across a road in N.Staffs. It was some time later that Tom Forrest described how a mother stoat would lead her kittens all nose to tail in a snake like manner.

  84. The gap in TA will give me more time to contemplate how to spend the additional 25p/week on my State Pension which I shall qualify for on Wednesday. Lockdown prevents going on a spree.

    1. My, and Mr A’s extra 25 pence-s are already being eaten up by having to pay for home deliveries from Sainsburys (or wherever we can get a delivery slot from)!

But concerning TA, I shall continue to listen to whatever episodes are broadcast on my iPod before going to sleep each night, it has become such a habit I feel lost on non-TA nights! I am still not sure what will happen about Sunday morning Omnibus programme’s for the next three weeks though. As the programmes are all from different years they can’t really be connected together.

  85. I wonder if there could be any benefit to Kirsty in actually being married to Philip. If they then became joint tenants (in the legal sense) and he went to prison afterwards then presumably only his half share of the house could be used for restitution or payment of any debts leaving Kirsty as his wife with some money after any sale (she presumably wouldn't be able to afford mortgage repayments on her own). Just wondering.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If they have only just got married Kirsty would not be entitled to half the value of the house. I'm pretty certain that Philip bought the house and Kirsty is a 'lodger.' I can't see that considering the jobs she has had she has managed to save money for a house of her own.
My ex sister in law thought/demanded she should get half his RN pension (accumulated over 29 years) despite only having been married to him for 2 years before he left the Navy. She was disappointed!
I think it is to prevent 'gold-diggers' from cleaning up!

    2. But would Kirsty want to profit from Philip's slavery?

  86. No, I don't think she would Gary.

  87. Lynda and Blake will be at high risk of infection so will need to self-isolate.
Blake is still being taken in for regular physio - perhaps the serenely virus-free Borsetshire General will decide it's better for him to be re-admitted, rather than travelling back and forth.Whilst in hospital, with the Dastardly Duo unable to visit, he will crack and spill the beans.

Or perhaps Gavin will just 'forget' to feed the 'horses'. In desperation, they will break the door down and seek help.

There again, Mealy-Mouthed Moss will probably string everyone a good line about how these lads have decided to self-isolate together rather than risk taking the virus to their beloved grey-haired parents. Super Moss will then show what a wonderfully caring employer he is by ensuring they have regular food parcels. And no access to the telephone or internet.

  89. So it is repeated episodes next week. I was confused a few days ago, as to what was happening re TA and Ambridge in the coming weeks.

I will enjoy listening to these, and recalling and refreshing, memories.

I am just glad that, I will still have an Ambridge episode, to listen to at 7.00pm.

I shall listen to some episodes. However, even if I don’t you will find me prodding and poking my nose in with a learned critique or opinion on all matters Ambridge related. Good or not do good.
