MrsP - AmbridgeSeptember 2, 2021 at 8:10 PM Your cat is obviously not well Miriam, and well done you for being able to recognise so many symptoms. I am thinking of you and the painful and difficult decisions likely to have to be made when the time is right. And you will know when that is as you are clearly a perceptive woman.
Ev - September 2, 2021 at 9:51 PM You could well be right about dementia, Miriam but of course it may be something else. Good idea to bring her health check forward. Thinking of you!
Janice - September 2, 2021 at 10:50 PM Our Tabitha who lived to over 18 had a stroke about 2 years before that. The vet said that the smaller animal brains heal quicker than humans. She was a bit wobbly and dopey to begin with but it sorted itself and she had a further 2 plus happy years, but after the stroke for some reason she would miaow quite loudly if she thought she was alone in the house and whoever was around would give her a cuddle just to reassure her.
parsley16 - September 2, 2021 at 11:37 PM We experienced similar symptoms with our old cat Bobby, we think he had a small stroke, maybe two, took to wandering around, miaowing, bumping into things, etc. Distressing. ❤️
Whilst looking for a nice picture of cats I stumbled across the video above and thought "why not?" - I'm sure we can all do with a little dose of cuteness and it keeps both cat AND dog lovers happy....
Posted before reading other comments! MIRIAM sending thoughts to you having been in your position in the past it is a worrying and painful time for you. π€πΌfor your visit to the vets with π⬛ for her health check.
Lovely! Especially liked the tolerance of the white cat whose ears were being chewed! I’m not sure how ours would relate to a cat. They certainly show a lot of interest if we see one out and about but are firmly on their lead in residential areas! I’m sure if reared together cat and dog would get along fine. We had a border collie who was frightened of cats having been jumped out at by a snarling moggy. He would chase them as sometimes they would be on a field where he ran free but stopped short if there was any danger of catching them.
That's a great tonic to start the afternoon with. I think it's a good idea getting cats and dogs used to each other when little. A friend who has two rescue greyhounds emailed me recently and said her husband had had to have his hand stitched up. The next door cat ventured into their garden and the greyhounds were having a real go at it. Luckily her husband was there and he picked up the cat who was fighting back and threw it over the hedge to get it to safety but got badly bitten for his pains. The cat was okay but must have had a real fright.
I’m a bit puzzled as it is thought the government is going to increase tax to fund social care. I already have an increase on council tax to fund it locally and I guess this is so in other parts of the country. How many times do we have to pay? One problem is bed blocking as people are not able to go home as they lack support there. A big mistake was closing cottage hospitals where recuperation could take place. As far as I know State pension is stopped after so many weeks in hospital. Where does that money go? It just sometimes seems that money is not managed properly and there is little central guidance or co ordination between authorities.
You are so right in that all extra payments are stopped for an individual, after a longish stay in hospital. My father had a gardener and cleaner, paid for by his attendance allowance, which was then stopped, due to a stay in a cottage hospital/geriatric rehab unit. There were no carers available to enable him to return home to get the care he required. I had sadly to let go the gardner and cleaner. As such I did all the gardening, and did all his washing and ironing, which came from the unit, where he wore his normal, daily clothes. The powers that be, do not know, how this affects others, which can be quite detrimental to others.
The state pension was diverted to the cost of the hospital stay. He was only there, as it was a long wait to get a care system in place. It was the system, or rather the lack of it, which caused so many problems.
Typical. Pusscat went AWOL today...so I couldn't get her to the vet appointment. How do these wonderful pets know a vets visit is planned, so just dissapear, and I hadn't even got the cat carrier out! Monday is the next try.
I popped out for a few bits + bobs after the pusscat went absent, but came back with a lot more. This was a tray of 24 winter flowering pansies, loads of bulbs, so over the week-end, I will be planting a "winter" window box of pansies + hyacinths, plus a hanging basket of pansies + dwarf daffs. I also bought more crocus bulbs, mini irises and "glory of the snow", which should all flower from Feb to March, to give early colour.
Got my Hillary’s blinds today. I think they are great. I was worried that Venetians would make the room dark but getting wide slatted, white ones seem to reflect the light and keeps the room light. Very pleased with them. Also re-roped the log burner door so have had the first fire of the season to cure it. Of course I couldn’t find the fire lighters so had to spend ages coaxing it to get going. So I was one happy bunny watching flames flickering and admiring my blinds. Hope you get your cat to the gets ok next time Miriam. Our eldest dog seems to be settling in to the new house a bit more now. Got laid in front of the fire for a bit tonight. Thank goodness.
Ooh ptby “too much information” π€£ππ€£ππ€£π but good luck to you and Mr ptby! Realised what you really meant of course but Mr R and I have enjoyed a really good belly laugh - so thank you.
The IOW festival is happening soon and I will not be venturing out that weekend as there will be much milling around especially in little Tesco! Have just heard the fish and chip shop will be closed so as not to put themselves and customers at risk. We still have to be careful because of the new variants. I think they should have put off the festival for this year but it all comes down to money I suppose!
Of all the supermarkets in NZ where that man could have run amok with knives, it just happened to be my daughter's local store! My grandson was passing at the time and saw it all happening, but thankfully my granddaughter was at home with the children, so none of my family were involved. The incident only lasted 60 secs before the 'bodyguard' weighed in but he still had time to inflict some nasty injuries. Overall it sounds like exactly the same kind of mistake which keeps being made here in the UK, so questions will have to be asked. Whether lessons will be learned is another matter, but on the whole Authorities in NZ seem to be more pragmatic. For example, vaccination for care home staff is mandatory, with no arguments about workers' personal freedom of choice to infect elderly residents.
Goodness Sarnia how awful for your grandson to witness such a terrible thing. Agree completely regarding the vaccination being mandatory in certain lines of work.
I am not sure if I am understanding this correctly. Is it that the care workers have no freedom of choice re the vaccine.. Or:- It is right for this to happen, to protect the senior residents in a Care Home...
Both, Miriam. The care workers have no freedom of choice and this is the right thing for the elderly and vulnerable residents. Personally, I can't understand why someone who calls themselves a care worker could care so little for the people in their charge that they would want to exercise a right to be free to infect them with this awful disease. My grandson is 21 and not the sort to be easily traumatised.
I so agree with EV about being cautious as to the IOW festival. Just look at the increased number of +ve cases after the Newquay festival, not just the festival goers but the residents, about 4000 +. I also read today, how the number of cases has increased dramatically, in the N.Wales beach/tourist areas after the BH weekend. I do wish though, that the age range for these, would be published for obvious reasons.
I saw also, that the massive number of tents abandoned after the Reading Festival, will be used for refugees. Is this fair, a 2nd hand tent being the best accomodation... but it is better than nothing, I suppose.
I put two bin bags of good quality clothes, into the Oxfam collection bins today (these are in the s/market car park) with these persons in mind. These were items that, I had bought on impulse as so cheap, but rarely worn as really not suitable, along with other items I just don't wear now, but still in good condition.
PS Some of these items were a tad too small, as I still haven't got rid of my Lockdown extra llbs. I have been trying hard, but nothing is happening...π£π΅
Sorry back to normal, too many posts in a row, but this is my last. I have a subcription for a TV/radio listing msg (not RT). This is always delivered on a Wednesday, but I realised today that it hadn't arrived. I went out at 11.00am and bought the same one, at the cover cost. My post was late today, and yes, at 1.30 this TV mag. arrived on my door mat!. Typical.
Having been contacted by Track and Trace about someone sitting behind us at the funeral having tested positive for Covid we have both had to do PCR tests ourselves. Fortunately we are OK but bearing in mind that our (greatly delayed) cruise to Norway begins in 9 days time we are being extremely careful I had planned to go into town next week to buy a couple of new dresses and some new underwear but don’t dare to do so now. It would be so easy to pick up the virus in a changing room, or from trying on clothes after others, that I shan’t risk it. Having waited 18 months to have our Golden Wedding celebration (albeit a much shorter one) I’d be most upset to have it delayed again!
Agree Archerphile, it's not worth the risk. And I'm sure you have plenty, or at least several nice dresses. I do hope your able to go without any hiccups.
Very sensible AP and π€πΌ all the way for you both now! Please remind me of your “Diamond Anniversary” cruise duration and itinerary π³ π€ detail. Dinner at the Captains Table would be appropriate to mark such a (delayed) celebration I feel ππ₯
Oh Mrs P! I did have a couple of nice dresses and even a long one for formal nights bought for our last cruise in 2019. But I am ashamed to say I put on weight during the lockdowns and now have a very distinct ‘spare tyre’ which shows up horribly in those dresses and they are very tight. So I am back , strictly, on my pre hip & knee op diet - absolutely no carbohydrates - but whether it will do the trick in time I really don’t know.
And Lady R - it’s just a 7 night trip this time to Norway- Bergen and a couple of fiords. We are trying out Saga this time instead of Fred Olsen to see which we prefer. Far more is included in the Saga fare & all Cabins have balconies which you to have to pay extra for with Fred. It’s a bit of an experiment but I’m jolly well going to enjoy being away for a few days and breathing some fresh sea air!
I had to read it twice more to understand a hidden meaning! Never mind. I hope your new move and the dog are happy in the new home, and Mr PTBY of course!
Not me PtbY, I've just now re read your post and given the prompt, can see what others did see. I hadn't seen the responses either, since I read your post very soon after you posted it.
I have not long come back from time with niece, her partner + the kids. What was great was their grand-dad was also there, having stayed over last night. This is big Sis's ex husband, who I get on well with, and I haven't seen for ages. We had a long awaited hug and catch up. Sadly with the lovely and sunny hot weather, the gardens were out of bounds, due to major, and now overlong, works being done.
Archerphile I was also tempted with an 18day Saga Norway cruise in July next year. The cost was a lot, but even as a single traveller, I would have had a double bed cabin with balcony and also fully inclusive, if I had booked it then. I doubt that this will now be still available...
I did a 7 day Saga yatch holiday in Croatia a few years ago. It was perfect, interesting and wonderful fun. There were only 28 of us. I am still not sure about a large ship cruise, as I would hate to feel "isolated"...This factor is important to me.
I am looking forward to the new series of the re-vamoed All Creatures Great + Small, which starts on the 16th, I think that is the start date? I say this as Ch 5 is showing the last episode of the last series tonight - the Christmas one, in case it is of interest.
We are looking forward to it too Miriam I read that Mrs Pumphrey, Tricky Woo’s owner, is to be played by Patricia Hodge after the death of Diana Rigg last year. I though Mrs P would be quietly dropped from the stories, but I suppose she is too prominent a character to loose.
Thanks for your reply Archerphile sounds a truly lovely trip. Sorry I got your Anniversary wrong GOLDEN of course! I have been surrounded by Diamond ones and that’s why I slipped up π
Yes, I did watch Doctors today. But do you know, I really couldn’t be bothered with it. I found I couldn’t care less about any of the characters or have any interest in the stories any longer - too long a break I think and I’ve lost that particular habit.
So I shall continue watching a recording of the previous nights House of Games, with Mr A, at 1.45 after lunch so we can exercise our brains instead.
Oh, I completely forgot to wish everyone Shana Tova this morning. It is Rosh Hashanah today and the start of our New Year, 5782. May the coming 12 months bring joy, good health and success to everyone and a return to ‘normal’ life for us all.
Indeed I have been busy Lady R and Miriam. Since selling my car and with agreement ,my neighbour has parked her car on my drive so that she could get a skip. In the circumstances I would have felt churlish had I not helped her to fill it and so I have been busily doing just that!! It has been so cathartic-and totally exhausting All the best to you Archerphile. I hope you have a lovely time cruising. You deserve the Break..
Plan A now is to watch The Keeper" on catch-up before trying to improve my mind by watching Only Connect and University Challenge. I don't watch Richard Osman's "House of Games" as much because 1) I haven't a clue who the so called 'celebrities" are and 2) they seem so proud of not knowing the simplest thing like who Sir Christopher Wren was and joke about their ignorance and are paid no doubt handsomely for doing so Bah humbug..
Just a Minute.... Sue Perkins did well. It must have been difficult having to take on the role, as the successor to the brilliant, late, great Nicholas Parsons. There was nothing not to like, nor criticise. She took it seriously and sensibly. Early days though, as after all, it was only her debut. It seemed Well Done, though.
I had it on in the other room but chose not to listen. I used to like Sue Perkins for her brave and upfront presentation, but I consider her fame has changed her into a loud mouthed, full of herself irritant.
I find it a bit worrying that such people/organisations can get access to this blog and post on it. I had always hoped it was a private place for us to meet up and chat, not open to outsiders. I just hope they don’t have access to us individually as well.
AP - you can rest easy, they have absolutely ZERO access to us individually...
Been back for a few days now from our holiday. It turned out to be an absolute nightmare of a time. After an amazing 5 days at the cottage in the Cairngorms we went up to the North East coast and on the Sat we went for a horse ride through a forest and from there we were supposed to spend an hour on a beach and frolicking in the surf. But poor Mr GG was thrown from his mount. He was knocked unconscious and I can safely say it was the most terrifying 2 hours of my life. There were only 3 of us there, in the middle of nowhere and with very patchy phone coverage. Amazingly, the coastguard, the ambulance and the police all arrived simultaneously after about 30 mins and he was duly stretchered to hospital. He had a small bleed on the brain, a broken collarbone and a cracked rib. He is doing MUCH better now but is still in a lot of pain and suffering from concussion.
The tiny hospital in Elgin kept him in for 48 hours, during which time I was 20 miles away in our B&B with no phone signal with know way of knowing if, as mooted, they moved him to Aberdeen. Happily it turned out they decided not to. He was duly released into my care, the B&B owner drove me to get him, 2 of the other guests took me to get our car from the stables miles away and then, after both sleeping for a further 48 hours, the B&B owner drove it and us all the way back to Glasgow! People can be amazing sometimes...
Dear Gary, what an awful experience for you both. But a good experience of the kindness of strangers too. Please do keep us up to date with Mr GG in his recovery. Wishing you and him all the very best.
I had a nice surprise yesterday, a personal video message from Darragh, my favourite Chaser! He certainly has the gift of the gab and it was all lovely, hoping Dudley and Buddy were behaving unlike his dogs who he said were worse than the children! I was to put my feet up and take care of myself. It was arranged by Katy of course and gave me a real boost!!π
She sent him a picture of me when having happy reaction. He sent back, said it made his day and again telling me to take it easy with a cup of tea AND a biscuit! What a nice man! Love him even more!!π
Oh Gary, you don't do things by halves, do you?? I hope you both recover very quickly, and keep away from horses. It sounds terrifying though, especially dodgy communication.
Gary so sorry to hear of MrGG and his awful accident. I hope he is progressing well. The accident was also difficult for you too and I hope you have some rest and recuperation too. It's amazing that so many strangers helped you too! Sometimes life is wonderful.
Nightmare situation, Gary, as much of a shock for you as for Mr GG, if in a different way. I expect you'll need time to get your head round it. It would seem I've missed a rogue post. Disappointing, as now I'll never know what it was!
Crikey GG, bon courage.. π€ I used to ride a lot when I was younger, decided about 10 years ago to take it up again... big mistake!! Fell off in no time at all, luckily no physical damage, just v shaken up. Ah well.
Oh goodness Gary, what a dreadful thing to happen on holiday, especially in a remote area with little communication. You must have been beside yourself with worry. I’m sure your tender care will help MR GG back to recovery soon, but take time for yourself to recover from such a frightening experience too. My love and heartfelt good wishes to you both. π₯°
Too hot to do much and for me to sit outside . Decided to see what was on daytime television with curtains drawn . TV turned off after a very short time. Please can somebody tell me why young women have presumably have Botox injected lips ? Their lips fill half their faces and -in my opinion- make them look very ugly. I think I saw a photograph of Julie Christie who is about my age. She was a real beauty but now is unrecognisable
I was the same, inside with curtains closed and TV on - as too hot to continue with my gardening project. I watched ITV3 with old Emmerdale and Coronation Street episodes. I have to admit, these thorougly entertained me and brought back many memories.. I am still a corrie fan, and what I watched have linked into recent S/L's.
GG. I wish Mr.GG a healthy and speedy recovery. You both underwent a trully traumatic event. It shows what human kindace is - with the magnificent and generous- help given to you both by so many. Take care, both of you...π€π€
Re my post about Just a Minute, last night, followed by Mrs P's - this was why I gave my thoughts. I was very surprised as to how well Sue P. did. She was so unlike the many pre-conceptions many have. So far, so good.
I listened with a very open mind, without any other pre-conceptions. I did the same when watching the new Countdown, but sadly this is no longer viewed, by me. These are my personal choices only.
To add, I was up at 1.30am this morning, as I was awake and hot. I sat in the garden with a cup of tea, looking at the stars, to then be enveloped in thick mist. This appeared so suddenly. On getting up (I went back to bed), my windows were still covered in condensation on the outside. I couldn't see through them for a while....
Miriam, I took my evening meal on the terrace, watching the sun go down and the stars come out. Later on, I was down in the courtyard in my swing chair until almost 1am with my coffee, looking at the stars - Cassiopeia right overhead. The air was so fresh, with a tiny hint of a breeze and tinged with the faint perfume of the Sumac tree. I didn't want to come in!
Oh Gary what an awful ending to the holiday for you both! Sending Mr GG many good wishes for as speedy a recovery as is possible while taking it easy too of course. A bad shock for you both so take comfort and support from each other π₯°
Just read your news Gary. Hope Mr GG heals quickly. The thought of a bleed on the brain is truly frightening. Lots of good wishes to you both. It sounds like he had a lively horse!
I am doing a:- Dame Julie Dench Dame Helen Mirren Dame Julie Walters Sue Johnston OBE...
in that I am growing old gracefully. This is without artificial aids, so no "trout lips", no artificial taught forehead and face skin, and just normal silvery hair with no hair colourants. I am, what I am, so why should I change?
Have just caught up. My goodness Gary, how very scary for you. I hope that Mr. GG recovers well and how wonderful that people were so kind when you needed help.
Lucky you Miriam ,having silver hair . Mine is still "mouse" with a couple of ash blond natural "Mallen" streaks . Since they look lonely my hairdresser does add ash blond highlights to the rest of my hair Result- though I says it myself as shouldn't - great. Growing old disgracefully? I am all for it if it makes one feel better . The "trout pouters " may feel the same about their looks so perhaps I was unkind in my earlier post.
I agree about the ugliness of ‘trout pouts’, especially on young women. I’ll never forget poor LesleyAsh and how terrible she looked when her lip operation went wrong. It ruined her face and her career for many years. The other current fashion I dislike is the painting on of thick black eyebrows that look as if they have been painted through a stencil. Totally unnatural and sadly my granddaughter came home from University with them. Black, even though she has long blond hair! Her Mum and I persuaded her to try something less heavy and she was treated to an eyebrow shaping session in a local beauty salon. Much nicer now.
Neither did the white highlights. I've often toyed with the idea of growing old disgracefully, but having grown up alone with an older mother who was far more interested in being a grandmother, I've decided on the policy of not growing old at all, on the grounds that I've done it already when I should have been in my teens.
I had lovely silver hair, until I lost it. And when I did, I discovered that I did have vitiligo on my scalp, though not a lot. My hair, or rather a version of , has now been growing and thickening up for about seven or eight years, and is still bright silver, but at the same time the vitiligo has increased heavily, so this thin fluffy stuff ( like a very old man who hasn't gone completely bald ) with white patches showing through is distinctive and IMO quite ugly. As a young woman I put a lot of energy into being attractive but came to care far more for the natural look, which is just as well given my various conditions. So, now as an older woman I am fully natural with all my physical faults/differences showing, including my thin lips. No pouting from me, but my wide grin still evident.
No more posts from me tonight. This is post one only, and I am counting... I say this, as it was very politely pointed out, that yesterday, I had posted 7 out of the latest 10 posts. It was a polite post, which I so respect and did take it to heart.
So that's my only daily post done. Enjoy your evening every-one.
I am going out to water my recently planted window box, plus the hanging basket, planted and put up today, for the 1st time for 18 months.
I loved seeing Basia and Hilary posting again. They have been so missed, along with many others. I so hope that they both, will continue to pop in, now and again.
Thank you, Miriam. I am still here and enjoying reading everyone's posts although I often get behind and by the time I catch-up it's too late to comment. I do feel rather guilty for not contributing as of course the blog only exists if we write on it and promise to chip in more when I have something I think some of you blogger friends might be interested in.
I feel I deserve a gold star: today I actually completed all three sessions of the exercises for my frozen shoulder! (Except the one with my hand behind my back which I still can't do at all.)
However, the physio told me this afternoon I need to do *at least* three, four, or five sessions a day. I didn't discuss the matter further in case he upped it to six!
A physiotherapist once told me that they 'know' that something like 90% of patients don't do the required number of times for each exercise, which is why they give the higher numbers. If it leads the patient to do any at all it's better than none.
My exercises are tracked online via telehab, so he does indeed know when I haven't done them : ( Mind you, I tend to decline the option to be videoed whilst I do them.
Currently I am using a folding tent pole for the exercises that use a stick. I have decided I shall buy a wooden broom handle from the pound shop and get Smallest Person in a Shoe to decoarate it with nice bright acrylic paints. Perhaps a cheerful stick will inspire me to do the exercises more regularly : )
Just did a long post and it disappeared! It was that dipping into Utube clips included were of Andy Williams and Mamma Mia. Andy was my favourite singer, the quality and range of his voice were incredible! Mike was a totally unromantic person but in our early days I was overcome when he disappeared up an escalator in Boots coming back with Andy’s latest LP! I was heartbroken when Andy died and was made aware whilst on holiday. My fellow travellers were totally unmoved!!
As for Mamma Mia, I find it the ultimate escape from reality and recommend it to anyone to rise above what life sometimes dishes out! Put aside prejudices, relax, put your feet up with a glass of wine or a coffee and slide in the DVD! Enjoy!!πππ
OWIAS Keep on with the phsyio excercises. I had Supraspinitis Tendonitis in one shoulder, (where the swollen tendon was "trapped" under a bone). I was unable to move one arm above the elbow for about 4 months. Physio was a great help, but it took a direct hit of a steroid injection to sort it out.
HiLARY. Thrilled about your pre-op cataract op. appointment. You will not believe the difference afterwards. Don't dismiss what the Dr. says about the after care, as it is better to be safe and sure, than sorry. After mine, I easily adapted things eg. not to lift too heavy an item at any one time, bending over too quickly etc.
I cannot believe that it is nearly 2 years since my 2nd one was done. I was out star gazing again last night, in the last warm and dry evening until next year. I stiil thanked "my lucky stars" as to how well I now see, phrase intentional. Rain and thunder starting, and it is well.needed. Back tomorrow.
I had an even better hair cut than last time, this morning. My stylist is using me as a guinea pig, as she used a "trial" pack of a new very light, styling product for curly hair, on me. I am not actually curly as such, just have a lot of kinks. I need to report back, and will do esp. if I can wangle a discount off something!! I was surprised when I was making my next appointment, to be asked, if I wanted to make my "Christmas" one at the same time. Even today, it was hard to fit in 2 equally spaced ones, so to get one in December. This was eventually done. How I hate to mention Christmas so early, but it was needs must today. I do love a good hair cut.
Please Note:- I have done, two long and pointless posts, which have appeared back to back. These however, were posted, nearly 24 hours apart One post a day, is still my mantra - except this is No 2. Sorry..π£
Miriam, you really don’t have to keep telling us how many posts you have done and if it is your second or third or will be the last one toady! If we wanted to, we could count them up ourselves.. Can’t you see that this is just exacerbating the problem? ( written in a friendly manner, not critical, I am just rather amused! π)
Thank you for your advice re cataract ops, Miriam. After your recommendation of Mamma Mia, Ev, I went on Netflix to find it but first a new Cinderella film, a musical, with Pierce Brosnan, popped up so I started watching it. At first I thought it wasn’t perhaps quite my cup of tea but then I started really enjoying it, especially the dance routines and the fact that some of the voices were British. A very modern take on the fairy tale, clearly inspired by a certain royal family. Tonight I will watch Mamma Mia though!
I have recently watched a film called "Wonder". It is what I call, a female only one, to watch on a cold wintry Sunday afternoon, with the fire well alight and needing no concentration. I needed tissues at the end.
Profile pictures are fascinating. Whenever I look at Miriam's I see a red haired woman wearing a pink scarf, a dark coat, and a black beret standing in front of a dark background.
Now, Have I managed to muck up everyone else's perceptions, or do you all still see the rose that is actually shown?
BTW I'm still trying with the exercises - managed 3 sets Wednesday and Thursday, still have today's final set to do : ( (Good job I keep such late hours.) I hope your cataract op comes through soon Hilary, all the best.
I like the second one better too though they are both uplifting. Cher singing “Fernando” is mesmerising! The SL is weak but is just the vehicle to release very pleasurable escapism. You just need to relax into it!
I love Abba and all the songs but I stopped watching Mamma Mia about twenty minutes in because of all the squeals of delight when anyone said something. Perhaps I was in a bad mood and I'll have to listen again!
OWiaS I think your shifty-looking individual in grey is a back view of you moonlighting as a private investigator tailing a suspect - someone making off with the contents of the offertory plate, perhaps???
No!!!!! π It is of 'my baby' Rob and lovely Kelly who were married in June! They decided to go ahead with the wedding even though I was not altogether fit and well! (I was absolutely exhausted when relatives drove me home!) But the bride said that previously she was concerned with the wedding day, (it was to her 'magical') but she assured me, at the reception, that she would take care of me! Lots of sons and two daughters-in-law are all taking care of me!
Spicy, it’s a beautiful photo, I have only just had a good look at it. A picture of pure happiness and I’m so glad you could go even though you were exhausted at the end.
I looked at OWIAS’s photo too, of the Ambridge Mug. I love Simon Drew’s artwork and visited his shop and gallery in Dartmouth. We always have one of his calendars in the kitchen every year, so witty and clever. I’d love to get one of those mugs!
It was a very friendly service, although we didn't have hymms but some were played. The wedding rehearsal was about four days before, and Kelly was overcame with emotion but when Kelly said her vows at the ceremony, the vicar said 'Well you didn't cry this time!' Rob said he wasn't nervous, he said it was the happiest time in his life.
Mama Mia Saw the Show . Most disappointed as I thought it was going to be the story of ABBA. Like the music but plot was ridiculous. Saw the film . Didn't like that.either However I am just about to watch two programmes about The Everly Brothers on catch-up Now there is CLASS and this evening I hope to watch the delightful young British tennis player in her first major final. so I am not as miserable as I sound.
So sad we are not cricket watching today but I shall also be watching Emma Radacuna tonight. She paid tribute to Virginia Wade who was there in her opening matches! My one claim to fame was that I paid tennis with Virginia at school about 50 years ago!
Beautiful day, it makes me want to do all sorts in the garden but sadly not enough energy. Just watched 'The Boss' singing a song for the victims of 9/11. So sad!
We are furious that the Indians chucked the final test match at the very last minute. But as Jonathan Agnew said, it’s more about money than Covid. They wanted to get their team back to India for the very lucrative IPL without any further isolations. And two fingers up to British Cricket fans and the huge loss of money it has caused everyone. π‘
Ah here I am π€ Spicy I read what you thought you had written just shows we see/read what we expect to! Wow that’s some claim to fame π₯ with Virginia even 50yrs ago… we will also be watching Emma later what a turnaround from her finish to Wimbledon. Good for her and fingers and toes crossed, either way a brilliant performance.
9/11 what an atrocity - still unbelievable after 20yrs! God bless all their souls, and ongoing strength to all their loved ones π―ππΌ
OWIAS I so laughed on reading your post on 10th Sept at 11.04pm.which related to my "true profile". The question now asked:- Is any-one's pre-conception of another - true, realistic and accueate. Those of you, who have met up at the meetings , know each other well.
I have had a lovely day today. This was with Two sisters, Two nieces, One grand nephew along with Two grand nieces, the youngest just 20 months, and the eldest 10yrs. I ate an unexpected lunch of R.Lamb served, with three veg. roast posts etc etc. It was a great "girlie" day, as all the men folk were elsewhere (apart from grand nephew).
My nephew-in-law, (the cricket coach) is in Manchester on a Stag Weekend, which originally revolved around the Old Trafford Test Match..not to be.
9/11 was a horrific event, which shocked so many in this world of ours. I think it is so remembered, as it was so traumatic and dramatic. It was the 1st true and dynamic, terrorist attack. There have been so very many others though, but on a smaller scale since then. These have been just as emotional, with the loss of many similar and innocent lives. I also recall July 7th 2005 (date?) so well, with the London tube + bus, atrocities, so on and so on.
I am not normally still awake, at this late hour. Tonight is different, as I have just listened to Emma R. winning the US Open Tennis. What an amazing achievement!
I hope though, that this isn't a one off "fairy tale". I recall Tracy Austin, another very young prodigy, who burnt out and retired, at an early age.
Not sure if I’ll be able to comment from tomorrow, took 5 attempts to get this published, so it might depend on the ship’s wi-fi. Hope I’ll be able to get Sounds to listen in each night, if not I’ll wait to get home for the Omnibus. Just hope Sounds reaches as far as Norway. Mean time, Ha det bra, vi snakkes!
Arvherphile. When do you start your long awaited cruise? I wish both You + Mr AP, a great belated 50th wedding anniversary celebration, which will be done in style + comfort. Enjoy abd Relax. You both deserve it, in so many ways.
Tomorrow Miriam Taxi arrives at about 10.45 to take us to Tilbury, several Covid tests are performed. Temp. oxygen levels and a LF test. If we pas we go on board, if not are brought back home! Ship sails at18.00 and first stop is Bergen on Tuesday evening. Then home again on Monday 20th to Dover and taxi home. All packed now and can’t wait!
I thoroughly enjoyed Endeavour last night and it was only a chance that I caught it! A little bit of computer work and mainly did a shopping list with Jon to sort out burgers and hot dogs (and all the rest of it!) for a Fun Day. I plan to help to shop on Saturday then deliver goods to the farm when we will cook and serve on Sunday. Hopefully legs, back, and energy last! Then I have to get flowers and travel the thirty miles to my home village where I will lay the flowers on my Dad's grave as it will be, on the Sunday, the 100 year of his birth. Many of you have started about a new book by Anna Cleaves so I thought I would buy it. Didn't like it at first as it was far too 'woke' but I got into the plot and didn't notice the other factions. I have ordered the second, and again I think the same so perhaps the second one will take me as the first. Anyway the writer seems to know what the audience at the moment wants, or is it the publishers?π€
Endeavour. I have this on series record. This will be watched on a cold, wintry, Sunday afternoon, with the fire alight. The same will be done, for the new series of All Creatures Great and Small, starting on Thursday.
I have had the most gorgeous photo's, pinged over, from my OZ family today. These were from a camping trip, on an island off the coast of Queensland (where they now live). All I can say, is, it's what we see in travel brochures - clear blue skies and sea, white sands and constant sunshine. This was a true idyllic paradise, the likes of which, I am not sure I will see again for a while, yet.
Katy has a day off a week now having gone part time. She went off with Buddy to the south near the Needles to view an ancient monument which is apparently just a lump covered in brambles! They walked for a total of 3 hours with rest stops, one for lunch. Sushi for her and frankfurter sausage for Buddy! He did very well and enjoyed the walk. She has a sling to carry him if he gets tired! Dudley is not as energetic as Shih Tzus are not designed for too much exercise! I took him down to the creek where we usually pause on a seat. He enjoys watching the world go by! I do too! Dogs are such great companions and we both enjoyed having one each today!πΆπΎπΎπΆ
Good morning everyone- very early for me π€£ just would like pass on to anyone who with iPad or iPhone that may not yet have heard that Apple has issued an emergency update connected to a spy-wear problem. I heard this very late last night on LBC news and when I checked the update was indeed in so I actioned immediately on both devices. Very wet here but have a good day anyway. Thinking of Archerphile π€
Except that I have received my car tax reminder. I was horrified, as I hadn't realised that it was due and how much it is! Still, why worry...I just paid it and then forget about the cost. It's the only way.
EV. I love it. Katy eating Sushi, but Buddy just scoffs, sausages. I have put my "puss cat" back onto a semi- meat diet, which seems to be working well. There have been no pees, poos etc. in my house, since this change.
I am a true "Buddy", with my love of sausages. I bought cumberland ones today. These are to be joined with onions, mixed pulses, chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, mixed peppers and stock - in some sort of way!! It's a what I call - A Wait + See - meal.
I started making mushroom soup this morning, then couldn’t be bothered, so left it and it’s now transforming into mushroom risotto for tea. Amazing what you feel like doing after a martini…..shaken not stirred!!! That’s in honour of booking tickets for new James bond film this morning…..oh and Archerphile cruising as well. πΈ
I just love a risotto. I do a chicken and mushroom one. This includes oyster mushrooms, dried porcini ones, along with the stock from a porcini stock cube. My supply of these stock cubes, are so well out-of-date, but I don't care and seem just as good and tasty
We usually have a veg meal once a week on a Monday but yesterday did sneak in a bit of streaky bacon! I did a fennel, chestnut mushroom and tomato sauce with pasta. We have fish on a Friday, a habit more than a religious reason. The rest of the week depends on inspiration and availability of ingredients! I have a nice recipe for chicken and mushroom risotto. It’s easy to cook and just uses one pan - a wok. We got into using them when we lived in Hong Kong. They are very practical and as you can toss the food around you need less oil. ππ₯’π₯’
I made a Lancashire hotpot an hour ago, but forgot it takes 2.5 hrs to cook, so desperate to avoid beans on toast, have made cheese soup, my favourite, and microwave sponge pudding, using as a base some marmalade that had been soaking in gin since last October. I love winter food.
Hotpot! Something to look forward to tonight, Mistral? You are just like me in not taking cooking time into consideration! It will be well marinated for today though!

ReplyDeleteYour cat is obviously not well Miriam, and well done you for being able to recognise so many symptoms.
I am thinking of you and the painful and difficult decisions likely to have to be made when the time is right.
And you will know when that is as you are clearly a perceptive woman.
Ev - September 2, 2021 at 9:51 PM
You could well be right about dementia, Miriam but of course it may be something else. Good idea to bring her health check forward. Thinking of you!
Janice - September 2, 2021 at 10:50 PM
Our Tabitha who lived to over 18 had a stroke about 2 years before that. The vet said that the smaller animal brains heal quicker than humans. She was a bit wobbly and dopey to begin with but it sorted itself and she had a further 2 plus happy years, but after the stroke for some reason she would miaow quite loudly if she thought she was alone in the house and whoever was around would give her a cuddle just to reassure her.
parsley16 - September 2, 2021 at 11:37 PM
We experienced similar symptoms with our old cat Bobby, we think he had a small stroke, maybe two, took to wandering around, miaowing, bumping into things, etc. Distressing. ❤️
Miriam - so sorry to read of your cat.
ReplyDeleteWhilst looking for a nice picture of cats I stumbled across the video above and thought "why not?" - I'm sure we can all do with a little dose of cuteness and it keeps both cat AND dog lovers happy....
Just magical and uplifting Gary π€
ReplyDeletePosted before reading other comments! MIRIAM sending thoughts to you having been in your position in the past it is a worrying and painful time for you. π€πΌfor your visit to the vets with π⬛ for her health check.
DeleteOh, bless!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tonic to start the afternoon with.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good idea getting cats and dogs used to each other when little.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right in that all extra payments are stopped for an individual, after a longish stay in hospital.
DeleteMy father had a gardener and cleaner, paid for by his attendance allowance, which was then stopped, due to a stay in a cottage hospital/geriatric rehab unit.
DeleteTypical. Pusscat went AWOL today...so I couldn't get her to the vet appointment.
ReplyDeleteHow do these wonderful pets know a vets visit is planned, so just dissapear, and I hadn't even got the cat carrier out!
ReplyDeleteAlso re-roped the log burner door so have had the first fire of the season to cure it.
Thank goodness.
π€
DeleteOoh ptby “too much information” π€£ππ€£ππ€£π but good luck to you and Mr ptby!
DeleteRealised what you really meant of course but Mr R and I have enjoyed a really good belly laugh - so thank you.
Yes, it could be cheekily interpreted! π€£ππ€£π
DeleteThe IOW festival is happening soon and I will not be venturing out that weekend as there will be much milling around especially in little Tesco! Have just heard the fish and chip shop will be closed so as not to put themselves and customers at risk. We still have to be careful because of the new variants. I think they should have put off the festival for this year but it all comes down to money I suppose!
ReplyDeleteOf all the supermarkets in NZ where that man could have run amok with knives, it just happened to be my daughter's local store! My grandson was passing at the time and saw it all happening, but thankfully my granddaughter was at home with the children, so none of my family were involved. The incident only lasted 60 secs before the 'bodyguard' weighed in but he still had time to inflict some nasty injuries.
ReplyDeleteOverall it sounds like exactly the same kind of mistake which keeps being made here in the UK, so questions will have to be asked. Whether lessons will be learned is another matter, but on the whole Authorities in NZ seem to be more pragmatic. For example, vaccination for care home staff is mandatory, with no arguments about workers' personal freedom of choice to infect elderly residents.
How traumatic for your grandson and I hope, that he hasn't been affected by it.
DeleteHow old is he?
Goodness Sarnia how awful for your grandson to witness such a terrible thing.
DeleteAgree completely regarding the vaccination being mandatory in certain lines of work.
I am not sure if I am understanding this correctly.
DeleteIs it that the care workers have no freedom of choice re the vaccine..
Or:-
It is right for this to happen, to protect the senior residents in a Care Home...
Both, Miriam. The care workers have no freedom of choice and this is the right thing for the elderly and vulnerable residents. Personally, I can't understand why someone who calls themselves a care worker could care so little for the people in their charge that they would want to exercise a right to be free to infect them with this awful disease.
DeleteMy grandson is 21 and not the sort to be easily traumatised.
I so agree with EV about being cautious as to the IOW festival.
ReplyDeleteJust look at the increased number of +ve cases after the Newquay festival, not just the festival goers but the residents, about 4000 +.
DeleteI have been trying hard, but nothing is happening...π£π΅
Sorry back to normal, too many posts in a row, but this is my last.
ReplyDeleteI have a subcription for a TV/radio listing msg (not RT). This is always delivered on a Wednesday, but I realised today that it hadn't arrived. I went out at 11.00am and bought the same one, at the cover cost.
My post was late today, and yes, at 1.30 this TV mag. arrived on my door mat!. Typical.
How π‘ Miriam!
DeleteNow you have one for each eye I suppose π
Having been contacted by Track and Trace about someone sitting behind us at the funeral having tested positive for Covid we have both had to do PCR tests ourselves. Fortunately we are OK but bearing in mind that our (greatly delayed) cruise to Norway begins in 9 days time we are being extremely careful
ReplyDeleteI had planned to go into town next week to buy a couple of new dresses and some new underwear but don’t dare to do so now.
DeleteAnd I'm sure you have plenty, or at least several nice dresses.
I do hope your able to go without any hiccups.
Very sensible AP and π€πΌ all the way for you both now!
DeletePlease remind me of your “Diamond Anniversary” cruise duration and itinerary π³ π€ detail.
DeleteSo I am back , strictly, on my pre hip & knee op diet - absolutely no carbohydrates - but whether it will do the trick in time I really don’t know.
DeleteHope the diet brings some results Archerphile.
DeleteI gather from my Tai Chi classmates that it's now called ' Covid belly', if that helps.
You lot have filthy minds!!!!
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t understand at first the comments to my last post. It must be my northern turn of phrase!!!
I had to read it twice more to understand a hidden meaning! Never mind. I hope your new move and the dog are happy in the new home, and Mr PTBY of course!
DeleteNot me PtbY, I've just now re read your post and given the prompt, can see what others did see.
DeleteI hadn't seen the responses either, since I read your post very soon after you posted it.
Miriam
ReplyDeleteHow is your cat today ?
Thanks so much for asking. She seems "back to normal" as she was yesterday, but I have been out most of the day.
DeleteI have not long come back from time with niece, her partner + the kids.
ReplyDeleteArcherphile I was also tempted with an 18day Saga Norway cruise in July next year. The cost was a lot, but even as a single traveller, I would have had a double bed cabin with balcony and also fully inclusive, if I had booked it then.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that this will now be still available...
ReplyDeleteI say this as Ch 5 is showing the last episode of the last series tonight - the Christmas one, in case it is of interest.
We are looking forward to it too Miriam
DeleteI read that Mrs Pumphrey, Tricky Woo’s owner, is to be played by Patricia Hodge after the death of Diana Rigg last year.
I though Mrs P would be quietly dropped from the stories, but I suppose she is too prominent a character to loose.
Where is LanJan?
ReplyDeleteHer input is missed.
Just checked and September 1st was LJ last posting on this blog, hopefully just busy π€πΌ
DeleteThanks for your reply Archerphile sounds a truly lovely trip. Sorry I got your Anniversary wrong GOLDEN of course! I have been surrounded by Diamond ones and that’s why I slipped up π
ReplyDelete"Doctors" at last started again today, after a long break. I haven't watched it yet. Why after so long, are there still only 4 episodes a week again?
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw it’s return advertised I said to Mr R “ Miriam & Archerphile in particular will be pleased π
DeleteYes, I did watch Doctors today. But do you know, I really couldn’t be bothered with it. I found I couldn’t care less about any of the characters or have any interest in the stories any longer - too long a break I think and I’ve lost that particular habit.
DeleteSo I shall continue watching a recording of the previous nights House of Games, with Mr A, at 1.45 after lunch so we can exercise our brains instead.
Oh, I completely forgot to wish everyone Shana Tova this morning. It is Rosh Hashanah today and the start of our New Year, 5782. May the coming 12 months bring joy, good health and success to everyone and a return to ‘normal’ life for us all.
ReplyDeleteIndeed I have been busy Lady R and Miriam.
ReplyDeleteSince selling my car and with agreement ,my neighbour has parked her car on my drive so that she could get a skip.
In the circumstances I would have felt churlish had I not helped her to fill it and so I have been busily doing just that!!
It has been so cathartic-and totally exhausting
All the best to you Archerphile.
I hope you have a lovely time cruising.
You deserve the Break..
I
Plan A now is to watch The Keeper" on catch-up before trying to improve my mind by watching Only Connect and University Challenge.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Richard Osman's "House of Games" as much because 1) I haven't a clue who the so called 'celebrities" are and 2) they seem so proud of not knowing the simplest thing like who Sir Christopher Wren was and joke about their ignorance and are paid no doubt handsomely for doing so
Bah humbug..
Just a Minute....
ReplyDeleteSue Perkins did well. It must have been difficult having to take on the role, as the successor to the brilliant, late, great Nicholas Parsons.
There was nothing not to like, nor criticise.
She took it seriously and sensibly.
Early days though, as after all, it was only her debut.
It seemed Well Done, though.
I so loved the recognition given to Nicholas Parsons, at the end.
DeleteThe baton has been passed on.
I will continue to listen
I had it on in the other room but chose not to listen.
ReplyDeleteI used to like Sue Perkins for her brave and upfront presentation, but I consider her fame has changed her into a loud mouthed, full of herself irritant.
Good gracious! Whoever it is must know Gary is away!!! I must be very ignorant but what is ex back?
ReplyDeleteI’m with you Janice???
DeleteDid not realise Gary away I missed that is he π΄♀️ ?
Oh well it's innocuous enough I suppose. We are all grown up aren't we ?
DeleteGary can deal with it on his return.
I find it a bit worrying that such people/organisations can get access to this blog and post on it. I had always hoped it was a private place for us to meet up and chat, not open to outsiders. I just hope they don’t have access to us individually as well.
DeleteYikes! Now deleted...
DeleteAP - you can rest easy, they have absolutely ZERO access to us individually...
I am very sorry to hear of your terrifying experience. What a nightmare for you both. I wish Mr GG a speedy recovery.
DeleteSo glad you had support and kindness at a very tough time. Best wishes to Mr GG for his recovery.
DeleteDear Gary, what an awful experience for you both.
DeleteBut a good experience of the kindness of strangers too.
ReplyDeleteI love those messages you can buy from your favourite celeb - I keep hoping Mr GG will get my hints and arrange one for me!
DeleteShe sent him a picture of me when having happy reaction. He sent back, said it made his day and again telling me to take it easy with a cup of tea AND a biscuit! What a nice man! Love him even more!!π
DeleteOh Gary, you don't do things by halves, do you??
ReplyDeleteI hope you both recover very quickly, and keep away from horses.
It sounds terrifying though, especially dodgy communication.
Were the police there to caution the horse???π
ReplyDeleteGary so sorry to hear of MrGG and his awful accident. I hope he is progressing well.
ReplyDeleteThe accident was also difficult for you too and I hope you have some rest and recuperation too.
It's amazing that so many strangers helped you too! Sometimes life is wonderful.
Nightmare situation, Gary, as much of a shock for you as for Mr GG, if in a different way. I expect you'll need time to get your head round it.
ReplyDeleteIt would seem I've missed a rogue post. Disappointing, as now I'll never know what it was!
Crikey GG, bon courage.. π€
ReplyDeleteI used to ride a lot when I was younger, decided about 10 years ago to take it up again... big mistake!! Fell off in no time at all, luckily no physical damage, just v shaken up. Ah well.
Oh goodness Gary, what a dreadful thing to happen on holiday, especially in a remote area with little communication. You must have been beside yourself with worry.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure your tender care will help MR GG back to recovery soon, but take time for yourself to recover from such a frightening experience too.
My love and heartfelt good wishes to you both. π₯°
Gary and Mr GG I wish you both calm and undisturbed recovery.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to Mr GG Gary.
ReplyDeleteI hope his recovery continues and he is soon back to full fitness.
Too hot to do much and for me to sit outside .
ReplyDeleteDecided to see what was on daytime television with curtains drawn .
Ah, the 'Trout Pout'.
DeleteI was the same, inside with curtains closed and TV on - as too hot to continue with my gardening project.
DeleteI watched ITV3 with old Emmerdale and Coronation Street episodes. I have to admit, these thorougly entertained me and brought back many memories..
I am still a corrie fan, and what I watched have linked into recent S/L's.
GG. I wish Mr.GG a healthy and speedy recovery. You both underwent a trully traumatic event. It shows what human kindace is - with the magnificent and generous-
ReplyDeletehelp given to you both by so many.
Take care, both of you...π€π€
Re my post about Just a Minute, last night, followed by Mrs P's - this was why I gave my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI was very surprised as to how well Sue P. did. She was so unlike the many pre-conceptions many have.
So far, so good.
I listened with a very open mind, without any other pre-conceptions.
DeleteI did the same when watching the new Countdown, but sadly this is no longer viewed, by me.
I am quite close to the R.Dee and also there is a nearby stream, which joins it. I live in a local "fog pocket".
DeleteMiriam, I took my evening meal on the terrace, watching the sun go down and the stars come out. Later on, I was down in the courtyard in my swing chair until almost 1am with my coffee, looking at the stars - Cassiopeia right overhead. The air was so fresh, with a tiny hint of a breeze and tinged with the faint perfume of the Sumac tree. I didn't want to come in!
ReplyDeleteOh Gary what an awful ending to the holiday for you both! Sending Mr GG many good wishes for as speedy a recovery as is possible while taking it easy too of course. A bad shock for you both so take comfort and support from each other π₯°
ReplyDeleteJust read your news Gary. Hope Mr GG heals quickly. The thought of a bleed on the brain is truly frightening. Lots of good wishes to you both. It sounds like he had a lively horse!
ReplyDeleteI am doing a:-
ReplyDeleteDame Julie Dench
Dame Helen Mirren
Dame Julie Walters
Sue Johnston OBE...
in that I am growing old gracefully. This is without artificial aids, so no "trout lips", no artificial taught forehead and face skin, and just normal silvery hair with no hair colourants.
I am, what I am, so why should I change?
Dame Judi Dench obviously...
DeleteMy sister has regular botox to her forehead.
DeleteShe tells us it's for migraines - we think it's a sneaky way to get rid of the wrinkles ; )
But for all our ribbing, it keeps her horrible migraines at bay. Long may it continue to work.
Miriam, did you realise that you have scored seven out of the last 10 posts? The knot in your hanky must have come undone ;) WINK!
ReplyDeleteHave just caught up. My goodness Gary, how very scary for you. I hope that Mr. GG recovers well and how wonderful that people were so kind when you needed help.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteLucky you Miriam ,having silver hair .
Mine is still "mouse" with a couple of ash blond natural "Mallen" streaks .
Since they look lonely my hairdresser does add ash blond highlights to the rest of my hair
Result- though I says it myself as shouldn't - great.
DeleteThe other current fashion I dislike is the painting on of thick black eyebrows that look as if they have been painted through a stencil. Totally unnatural and sadly my granddaughter came home from University with them. Black, even though she has long blond hair!
Her Mum and I persuaded her to try something less heavy and she was treated to an eyebrow shaping session in a local beauty salon. Much nicer now.
Ha! Never thought I'd live to see the day when my scary Guernsey eyebrows actually became a fashion statement!
ReplyDeleteAnd they haven’t cost you a penny Sarnia π€ π
DeleteNeither did the white highlights.
ReplyDeleteI've often toyed with the idea of growing old disgracefully, but having grown up alone with an older mother who was far more interested in being a grandmother, I've decided on the policy of not growing old at all, on the grounds that I've done it already when I should have been in my teens.
Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional ; )
DeleteI had lovely silver hair, until I lost it. And when I did, I discovered that I did have vitiligo on my scalp, though not a lot.
ReplyDeleteMy hair, or rather a version of , has now been growing and thickening up for about seven or eight years, and is still bright silver, but at the same time the vitiligo has increased heavily, so this thin fluffy stuff ( like a very old man who hasn't gone completely bald ) with white patches showing through is distinctive and IMO quite ugly.
ReplyDeleteThis is post one only, and I am counting...
ReplyDeleteI so hope that they both, will continue to pop in, now and again.
OOPs....Post No#2..π£π€π²
Messaged you on the other blog MIRIAM.
DeleteThank you Miriam. We both showed up in time of trouble, but I'd like to do better than that...
DeletePleased your still reading Basia.
DeleteStay with us. Please.
Thank you, Miriam. I am still here and enjoying reading everyone's posts although I often get behind and by the time I catch-up it's too late to comment.
DeleteI do feel rather guilty for not contributing as of course the blog only exists if we write on it and promise to chip in more when I have something I think some of you blogger friends might be interested in.
God bless, Miriam.
ReplyDeleteI feel I deserve a gold star: today I actually completed all three sessions of the exercises for my frozen shoulder! (Except the one with my hand behind my back which I still can't do at all.)
ReplyDeleteHowever, the physio told me this afternoon I need to do *at least* three, four, or five sessions a day. I didn't discuss the matter further in case he upped it to six!
OwiaS
ReplyDeleteA physiotherapist once told me that they 'know' that something like 90% of patients don't do the required number of times for each exercise, which is why they give the higher numbers. If it leads the patient to do any at all it's better than none.
Well done for what you did do.
My exercises are tracked online via telehab, so he does indeed know when I haven't done them : ( Mind you, I tend to decline the option to be videoed whilst I do them.
DeleteCurrently I am using a folding tent pole for the exercises that use a stick. I have decided I shall buy a wooden broom handle from the pound shop and get Smallest Person in a Shoe to decoarate it with nice bright acrylic paints. Perhaps a cheerful stick will inspire me to do the exercises more regularly : )
Sorry you have been touched by the Wintersmith, but Summer will come.
DeleteGary
ReplyDeleteHow is Mr GG getting on with his collar bone and ribs ?
Gary ?
ReplyDeleteWere loading more on the other side !
This is a test as I can't post on the other blog.
ReplyDeleteAnneveggie, I got it wrong, it was you who widened m vocabulary by providing that lovely new word, wasn't it!
ReplyDeleteSarnia - yes it was.
DeleteOWIAS (10.27 pm), well done with the exercises! I had my pre-op appointment on Tuesday for cataract ops and the surgeon said they deliberately exaggerated how careful patients should be after the op because they knew that otherwise many would fail to take enough care.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a while ago when I proudly told my physiotherapist that I was doing 3000 steps a day , he completely deflated me by saying that 3000 was the bare minimum and to aim for 6000!
The pre-op appointment was originally scheduled for 19 months ago but was cancelled due to covid. So that's the backlog. The ops should be within two months so I am keeping my fingers crossed there won't be another lockdown.
Italy is not doing too badly covid-wise at present but schools only go back next Monday and ..WINTER IS COMING! The Green Pass is however obligatory in restaurants, cafΓ©s , museums, theatres and so on, even at the open-air archeological site at Terracina which I visited recently. It is a Roman fortress which had once had the Temple of Jupiter Anxur.

ReplyDeleteJust did a long post and it disappeared!
DeleteAs for Mamma Mia, I find it the ultimate escape from reality and recommend it to anyone to rise above what life sometimes dishes out! Put aside prejudices, relax, put your feet up with a glass of wine or a coffee and slide in the DVD! Enjoy!!πππ
Oh Ev! I loved Andy Williams too and had all his LPs and watched all his TV Shows.
DeleteOne of my favourites was his ‘Red Roses for a Blue Lady’ which contains a line about ‘I’ll buy a white orchid for her Wedding gown’
And that’s exactly what Mr A did for me. Though we had to marry in a Registry Office due to religion diffΓ©rences, he bought me a bouquet of a single beautiful orchid with greenery to carry.
But it wasn’t white - it was a lovely gold colour because we were getting married on my parents Golden WeddingAnniversary, so it was a tribute to them too. He has never been so romantic since!
Ev -
ReplyDeleteIt didn't disappear- it's posted on the other blog.
Yes, sorry folks! I did check the other blog but didn’t see the load more. My mistake on getting my blogs mixed up in the first place!!π€
DeleteNice romantic gestures from husbands even if only once.
ReplyDeleteOWIAS Keep on with the phsyio excercises. I had Supraspinitis Tendonitis in one shoulder, (where the swollen tendon was "trapped" under a bone). I was unable to move one arm above the elbow for about 4 months. Physio was a great help, but it took a direct hit of a steroid injection to sort it out.
ReplyDeleteHiLARY.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised when I was making my next appointment, to be asked, if I wanted to make my "Christmas" one at the same time. Even today, it was hard to fit in 2 equally spaced ones, so to get one in December. This was eventually done.
How I hate to mention Christmas so early, but it was needs must today. I do love a good hair cut.
Please Note:-
ReplyDeleteI have done, two long and pointless posts, which have appeared back to back. These however, were posted, nearly 24 hours apart
One post a day, is still my mantra - except this is No 2.
Sorry..π£
Miriam, you really don’t have to keep telling us how many posts you have done and if it is your second or third or will be the last one toady!
DeleteIf we wanted to, we could count them up ourselves..
Can’t you see that this is just exacerbating the problem?
( written in a friendly manner, not critical, I am just rather amused! π)
Thank you for your advice re cataract ops, Miriam.
ReplyDeleteAfter your recommendation of Mamma Mia, Ev, I went on Netflix to find it but first a new Cinderella film, a musical, with Pierce Brosnan, popped up so I started watching it.
DeleteProfile pictures are fascinating. Whenever I look at Miriam's I see a red haired woman wearing a pink scarf, a dark coat, and a black beret standing in front of a dark background.
DeleteNow, Have I managed to muck up everyone else's perceptions, or do you all still see the rose that is actually shown?
BTW I'm still trying with the exercises - managed 3 sets Wednesday and Thursday, still have today's final set to do : ( (Good job I keep such late hours.) I hope your cataract op comes through soon Hilary, all the best.
I love mamma Mia. In fact I liked the second mamma Mia film better. The music is uplifting. Forget the storyline…..just enjoy the music.
ReplyDeleteI like the second one better too though they are both uplifting. Cher singing “Fernando” is mesmerising! The SL is weak but is just the vehicle to release very pleasurable escapism. You just need to relax into it!
DeleteI love Abba and all the songs but I stopped watching Mamma Mia about twenty minutes in because of all the squeals of delight when anyone said something.
DeletePerhaps I was in a bad mood and I'll have to listen again!
OWiaS I think your shifty-looking individual in grey is a back view of you moonlighting as a private investigator tailing a suspect - someone making off with the contents of the offertory plate, perhaps???
ReplyDeleteOwias, I see what you mean, but to me it is a Womble.
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering if the beautiful wedding photo is of Spicycushion???
ReplyDeleteNo!!!!! π It is of 'my baby' Rob and lovely Kelly who were married in June! They decided to go ahead with the wedding even though I was not altogether fit and well! (I was absolutely exhausted when relatives drove me home!) But the bride said that previously she was concerned with the wedding day, (it was to her 'magical') but she assured me, at the reception, that she would take care of me!
DeleteLots of sons and two daughters-in-law are all taking care of me!
Spicy, it’s a beautiful photo, I have only just had a good look at it.
DeleteA picture of pure happiness and I’m so glad you could go even though you were exhausted at the end.
The wedding rehearsal was about four days before, and Kelly was overcame with emotion but when Kelly said her vows at the ceremony, the vicar said 'Well you didn't cry this time!'
DeleteRob said he wasn't nervous, he said it was the happiest time in his life.
Thank you, OWIAS! Hope your exercises help.
ReplyDeleteMama Mia
ReplyDeleteSaw the Show .
Most disappointed as I thought it was going to be the story of ABBA.
Like the music but plot was ridiculous.
Saw the film .
Didn't like that.either
However I am just about to watch two programmes about The Everly Brothers on catch-up
Now there is CLASS
and this evening I hope to watch the delightful young British tennis player in her first major final.
so I am not as miserable as I sound.
So sad we are not cricket watching today but I shall also be watching Emma Radacuna tonight. She paid tribute to Virginia Wade who was there in her opening matches!
DeleteMy one claim to fame was that I paid tennis with Virginia at school about 50 years ago!
Beautiful day, it makes me want to do all sorts in the garden but sadly not enough energy.
Just watched 'The Boss' singing a song for the victims of 9/11. So sad!
We are furious that the Indians chucked the final test match at the very last minute.
DeleteBut as Jonathan Agnew said, it’s more about money than Covid. They wanted to get their team back to India for the very lucrative IPL without any further isolations.
And two fingers up to British Cricket fans and the huge loss of money it has caused everyone.
π‘
π
DeleteSorry message not correct
DeleteI 'played' Virginia at tennis in my schooldays.
Testing!
DeleteAh here I am π€
DeleteSpicy I read what you thought you had written just shows we see/read what we expect to!
God bless all their souls, and ongoing strength to all their loved ones π―ππΌ
...And back in the 80s I played the organ for services led by her Dad, Rev Gabriel Wade here in the local URC.
ReplyDeleteStrange, that it is a small world!
DeleteTruly I am among bloggers of not only talent but connections to fame ππ»
DeleteOWIAS I so laughed on reading your post on 10th Sept at 11.04pm.which related to my "true profile".
ReplyDeleteThe question now asked:-
Is any-one's pre-conception of another - true, realistic and accueate.
ReplyDeleteI think it is so remembered, as it was so traumatic and dramatic.
It was quite interesting today, when thise of two generations, recalled, how and when, the 9/11 events became known to each.
DeleteI am not normally still awake, at this late hour. Tonight is different, as I have just listened to Emma R. winning the US Open Tennis.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing achievement!
I hope though, that this isn't a one off "fairy tale".
I recall Tracy Austin, another very young prodigy, who burnt out and retired, at an early age.
However, Emma R. is certainly a new Champion.
It was shown on Channel4 Miriam by courtesy of Amazon Prime!
DeleteI was tired, so I was in bed, warm, cosy and comfortable. I was happy just listening to the R5 commentary. That was bad enough!
DeleteWell done Emma!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if I’ll be able to comment from tomorrow, took 5 attempts to get this published, so it might depend on the ship’s wi-fi. Hope I’ll be able to get Sounds to listen in each night, if not I’ll wait to get home for the Omnibus. Just hope Sounds reaches as far as Norway.
ReplyDeleteMean time,
Ha det bra, vi snakkes!
Arvherphile.
ReplyDeleteWhen do you start your long awaited cruise?
I wish both You + Mr AP, a great belated 50th wedding anniversary celebration, which will be done in style + comfort.
Enjoy abd Relax. You both deserve it, in so many ways.
Tomorrow Miriam

ReplyDeleteHave a lovely relaxing time. ⛴π♀️
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely time!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip Atrcherphile.
ReplyDeleteHave a good time and look forward to hearing about it when you return!
DeleteEnjoy AP! Enjoy - and then enjoy more!
DeleteAll rooting for you and Mr AP - AP..... as PtbY says..... be very careful but not to the detriment of enjoying this long awaited trip.
DeleteIf you are able to post whilst away, we will enjoy reading.
I thoroughly enjoyed Endeavour last night and it was only a chance that I caught it!
ReplyDeleteA little bit of computer work and mainly did a shopping list with Jon to sort out burgers and hot dogs (and all the rest of it!) for a Fun Day.
Sorry, Ann Cleeves!
DeleteEndeavour. I have this on series record. This will be watched on a cold, wintry, Sunday afternoon, with the fire alight.
DeleteThe same will be done, for the new series of All Creatures Great and Small, starting on Thursday.
PS I have just watched all 4 episodes of "Innocent" which I had recorded. I so enjoyed it, and is very similar to Unforgotten, in it's concept.
DeleteHave a lovely cruise, Archerphile. You will be standing on deck awaiting departure as I write.
ReplyDelete...with a cocktail in hand...
DeleteI have had the most gorgeous photo's, pinged over, from my OZ family today. These were from a camping trip, on an island off the coast of Queensland (where they now live). All I can say, is, it's what we see in travel brochures - clear blue skies and sea, white sands and constant sunshine.
ReplyDeleteThis was a true idyllic paradise, the likes of which, I am not sure I will see again for a while, yet.
They had wild Koala bears in trees, just outside their tent...
DeleteI've got pictures like that with the children holding Koalas Miriam
DeleteWhen my daughter and family did an extensive holiday in Australia.
ReplyDeleteπ¨ not bear, marsupial.
ReplyDeleteπ± just jealous.
DeleteGood morning everyone- very early for me π€£ just would like pass on to anyone who with iPad or iPhone that may not yet have heard that Apple has issued an emergency update connected to a spy-wear problem. I heard this very late last night on LBC news and when I checked the update was indeed in so I actioned immediately on both devices.
ReplyDeleteVery wet here but have a good day anyway. Thinking of Archerphile π€
Good Afternoon All. π
ReplyDeleteNothing at all to post about today. π£
I just thought that I would just look in to see if there was any chats.
Except that I have received my car tax reminder.
DeleteI was horrified, as I hadn't realised that it was due and how much it is! Still, why worry...I just paid it and then forget about the cost. It's the only way.
EV. I love it.
ReplyDeleteKaty eating Sushi, but Buddy just scoffs, sausages.
I have put my "puss cat" back onto a semi- meat diet, which seems to be working well.
There have been no pees, poos etc. in my house, since this change.
I am a true "Buddy", with my love of sausages.
DeleteI bought cumberland ones today. These are to be joined with onions, mixed pulses, chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, mixed peppers and stock - in some sort of way!!
It's a what I call - A Wait + See - meal.
As long as I will be eating this mess, by 7.00pm, just as TA starts.
DeleteI started making mushroom soup this morning, then couldn’t be bothered, so left it and it’s now transforming into mushroom risotto for tea. Amazing what you feel like doing after a martini…..shaken not stirred!!! That’s in honour of booking tickets for new James bond film this morning…..oh and Archerphile cruising as well. πΈ
ReplyDeleteI just love a risotto.
DeleteI do a chicken and mushroom one. This includes oyster mushrooms, dried porcini ones, along with the stock from a porcini stock cube.
My supply of these stock cubes, are so well out-of-date, but I don't care and seem just as good and tasty
I only use carnaroli rice.
Ooh Miriam, I've never seen porcini stock cubes. Where do you get them? They sound delicious.
DeletePTBY - I too had mushroom risotto tonight.
DeleteOne night when I don't have to cook two meals; one meat for Jon and one vege for me !
They are very practical and as you can toss the food around you need less oil. ππ₯’π₯’
DeleteI made a Lancashire hotpot an hour ago, but forgot it takes 2.5 hrs to cook, so desperate to avoid beans on toast, have made cheese soup, my favourite, and microwave sponge pudding, using as a base some marmalade that had been soaking in gin since last October.
ReplyDeleteI love winter food.
Hotpot! Something to look forward to tonight, Mistral? You are just like me in not taking cooking time into consideration! It will be well marinated for today though!
ReplyDelete
